"MT. EVANS LAYERS" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA PAINTING OF SCENES OF MT. EVANS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Mt Evans Layers"
48" x 18" mixed media on cradled MDF panel
for more information click the title for my website

This turned out to be a great companion to my "Gore Range Layers" as I used similar color palette, or it would stand fine on it's own.  A LOT in this one...alpine sunflowers, pines along the ridge, rock fields, and of course my all favorite aspen.  I enjoyed working my way down this one!

This is the part of the mountain that I can see from the top of my property, so it has become my favorite section to address...I love the way the pines flank the top of the ridge...I added aspen there as a liberty...they exist...but not exactly in that spot below the mountain...

The rock fields are on the hike up...and the alpine sunflowers are in a field a bit away...but still in and around!!  The two aspen atop the rock in a different area really DO exist coming out of the rock...so, in they went!

it is always a challenge to decide how to incorporate the aspen at the bottom like I've enjoyed doing...but it seemed to work out fine here, so in they went!!

I enjoyed working this large piece that I will most probably put in my new gallery; Creations; in Louisville at the first of June...but, NOW I am in the mood to play with something different...MAYBE even an abstract...I played around with composition and I'm thinking something more abstract!  Wish me luck!!

HAPPY CREATING!

MOVIN ON DOWN

Mt. Evans Layer painting process

Sometimes moving down is a good thing...as in the case of my latest 48" x 18" layer painting with Mt. Evans as the star...I'm moving down and it's feeling good so far!  There is a little of everything in this...stamping (click to enlarge to see the sky and a bit here and there), papers, acrylic paint...so FAR!...who knows what will end up in this piece by the bottom!  I'd say I've worked my way down about 1/3...still will pick and play up higher as I see what I want to add, but so far it is laying in nicely.  I'm beginning a rock field as you can see...and I'm going to try to work in a few alpine sunflowers and of course more aspen as I go down...FUN DOINS!

I feel like my progress is slow for me...but I admit I'm weighed down just a little with concern for my mom and dad as they are going through this very difficult time...but, I'm so PROUD at the attitude...God is in charge and He knows what is best...so there is peace in this!  So, I find when things get a little heavy in my mind I grab my stuff and go outside or down to town for a little change of scenery...But, I know I will finish this one soon as I have several big uns to do in a short period of time!!  It's all good in the grand scheme of things...

I'm going to post this VERY blurry pic of a pretty bird that I tried like crazy to photograph because I'm not sure what it is...The colors were MUCH brighter than the photo shows, so I don't think it is a Robin...but I'm not sure...You bird lovers out there might be able to tell me what it is...and I think I have enough information to paint this little one someday...so I'm hanging on to the photo...My camera kept focusing on the trees behind...I guess I have it trained to my favorite subject matter!! HA
Any ideas??  It's sooo cute!!

ALWAYS ANOTHER BEGINNING

Yes, there is always a new beginning, and this is it for me...I've begun another 48" x 18" layer painting with Mt. Evans as the up top star...I've got some good ideas already as I move downward...Stay tuned!

The bidding has begun for the Mask Project 2012!  The masks are on display at the Cherry Creek Mall and the proceeds go to the Denver Hospice...a great cause!  Close to heart for me this year as my dad is not doing well and he is on my heart and my mind a LOT lately!    SO, f you want a treat take a break from regular life and see them all at the Cherry Creek Mall here in the Denver area!!

And, it's time for MY break to be over...so back to painting!!

"GOLF IN THE ROCKIES" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA PAINTING OF A GOLF COURSE © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Golf in the Rockies"
10" x 20" mixed media on canvas
ON HOLD

I'm really laughing about this painting.  It was done at the request of the Deer Creek Golf Club in Littleton...well, they requested of the Ken Caryl Art Guild to do golf themed paintings and so we decided to do it at least once.  This painting started out with sand traps and such but I HATED all those sand colored blobs in there, so after I kept changing it it turned into a landscape with a single flag and golf hole...that's all I could bear to put in there!! HA...So, I guess this will be my only golf themed painting...Not a fan of the subject matter...HOWEVER I was a fan of playing with acrylics in little bottles with line tips...you'll have to click on it to see the detail...THAT was fun!!

I'm also laughing about the frame I got...It is not my typical metal frame...it is a wood frame I got at Hobby Lobby...Well, when I got it home I hated the color, so started sanding and painting and currently it is a MESS...so, I will play some more and come up with a solution that I like better...AAAHHH life!!  All in all...FUN DOINS!!

HAPPY CREATING!

"ASPEN MELODY" ORIGINAL PAPER CAST PAINTING OF ASPEN © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY and NEW GALLERY

apx 4x4" paper cast aspen on watercolor paper with texture
apx. 8x8" matted and framed

I'm still busy on my golf related painting that is due Wednesday.  It was a kind of quick slip in before Bugs Eye View as the show came up and I'm not likely to have golf related art just sitting around my studio...So, I thought I'd bring out a piece I especially love.  My paper cast aspen are in this and I love working in a little 3-d.  You can't see it here, but the trees are a bit 3-D and I've put them in a shadow box frame!

I'm happy to report that I've signed on with a new and most wonderful gallery in Louisville, Co called CREATIONS ART and GIFTS.  I've left a few pieces with them and am preparing for a larger show in June, so stay tuned for the details.  I absolutely love the combination of work they have in this gallery, so I invite you to stop by for some wonderful example of art which includes the 3-D as well with pottery and jewelry.  There is a lot more going on up north than you may think!  I hear they will be starting workshops soon as well!
So, it's back to my golf piece...

"ASPEN SUMMER" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA PAINTING OF ASPEN © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Summer Aspen"
click the title to go to my website for more information
6 3/4" x 24" mixed media on MDF cradle stained English Oak

My completed vision of Summer Aspen from the demo beginning earlier this week.  I have to admit I loved the painted beginning so much I was tempted to make it my first abstract...however I am not QUITE ready to jump there yet, and I was demonstrating my collage process, so it became my most beloved aspen.

I'm sharing a photo I took the other day when we had fog up here on the mountain...the strange thing was it was SUNNY AND FOGGY...I love the star of a sun and our mountain across the way poking up above the fog settling in...

DEMO FUN!

It has been a bit hit and miss in the ole studio of late...Today I did a demo for the Broomfield Art Guild and we had a ball.  I've got to tell you, I always feel a little sorry for my audience as I work quickly and talk even faster than normal to get as much information and painting done in an hour!  I usually go with handouts and show lots of finished product, because no matter how quickly I work I can never finish a painting and say all I want.  This is another aspen piece in process that I think is going to be a fun one.  I LOVE the contrast with the black and white papers against the aspen. And, I'm liking the color scheme too...
Here you can see the detail of paper and paint working together...hopefully...stay tuned for the end result!  And, by the way...art is alive and going strong at Broomfield...a great group of artists and they have a lot of FUN DOINS going on!

I haven't forgotten my bugs eye view piece...but I've been a little all over the place lately and even started a cherry piece as well...I LOVE making foam stamps SO much...Here is the process to date on THAT one!...WOW, when I finish all I've started it will be great fun to add them to my website all at once!!
I've added some papers and stamping for the background...If you enlarge it you can see my drawing of cherries and branches beginning...I'm excited to see what it turns out to be...

PLAY DAY...FUN DOINS!

Yesterday I played art with a couple of artist friends.  They came up to my house in the mountains and we grabbed all our STUFF and experimented and played in art.  I highly recommend you do this from time to time!  Not only is it great to bounce ideas off each other, but it is fun to be with like minded people!  The end result of some our play is this print made from acrylic paint and shaving cream of all things!  My friend Carol Nelson brought up some shaving cream and we had a ball!  The method is easy and fun.  First you put some shaving cream in a foam plate...kind of thick...Drizzle some watered down acrylic over the cream and take a toothpick and make swirls in the cream mixing the paint a bit...then put a piece of paper over and press down...pull up the paper and scrap off the shaving cream with a spatula and VOILA...a print! FUN DOINS!  This is great for making collage papers!

The extra thing we learned from this play was that acrylic paint stays wet for a good long time when mixed with shaving cream!  The colors are more pastel, but what fun to discover this!  We took our extra scraped off shaving cream paint and actually painted over book pages for even MORE collage paper!!  Try it you'll like it!!

I was also lucky enough to grab a couple of extra photos of some bird friends that came by to visit...I think this is an evening grosbeak, but I'm not sure...
I'm trying to figure out what kind of hair do the top of his head reminds me of...anyone know??...FUNNY!

This little cutie is so puffed up I'm not sure what he is either...maybe a nuthatch or a finch??  And, YES...that snow was on our trees in the morning and all melted off by afternoon.  That's Colorado for you!!

I'm back to working on my "Bug's Eye View" now...stay tuned!

A BUGS EYE VIEW BEGINNING AND A TEST...

I'm finding it interesting that ALL OF A SUDDEN I have gotten interested in abstract!  I've always loved it to look at, but have never considered actually painting in abstract until recently...And, I'm laughing because almost ALL of my paintings start very abstract "ly"!...Take what I'm calling "A Bug's Eye View" as an example...As I begin my work I always abstract my backgrounds first and then lay things on top.  Now, this one is of an aspen tree from below...so, that will most likely become a tree...but...hmmm...funny...

SO, as I play with abstract I'll be interested in seeing just what I end up with...Right now when I see these things in this stage I always want to do more...so, let's see if Saundra can STOP at abstract...Stay tuned!

I have recently begun to play with the new social media site called PINTEREST...it's a lot of fun to post pics and grab things of interest and pin them to my different boards...One of my "boards" is called Art Tips...so, I'm going to EMBED one of my pins and see if it works...hang on...let's see...You may find the information interesting!!  ENJOY!! and HAPPY CREATING!!...OK...I followed the link and it just takes you to her blog...interesting glitch in Pinterest...so, I traveled about in her blog and found the link for the 12 easy image transfer methods which is HERE!! so, NOW, HAPPY CREATING!!

"THREE PEARS" ORIGINAL ACRYLIC PAINTING OF PEARS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Three Pears"
16" x 20"
acrylic on canvas with grey metal frame
$325 includes shipping in the US

This painting is not available on my website as it is some of my earlier work.  Occasionally I will put some of my earlier work here as a sort of intermission to my regular work when it is in progress...so here tis...This is one of my favorites...working in acrylics and blending is a challenge...one that is fun to me...but I LOVE the way I work now so I'm on to other challenges!

My most wonderful daughter gave me permission to put the PHOTO of her wedding bouquet on canvas and send THAT to her.  After spending the day working and reworking that acrylic I hated so much I decided too much pink on pink...too much fluffy and it was driving me CRAZY...!  I am MOST GRATEFUL to my beautiful Michelle for understanding that I was going a little nuts and letting me say I CAN'T DO IT right now...tee hee...WHEW...It's OK to walk away...and that is just what I did...

I'm on to working on trees and abstracts and other fun doins...so stay tuned!!

HAPPY CREATING!!
