"CROW CIRCLES" ORIGINAL MINI OIL ON 4"X4" GALLERY WRAP CANVAS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Crow Circles"
oil on 4"x4" gallery wrap canvas
AVAILABLE for now on my WEBSITE

Another crow offering for my gallery in Conifer, unless he sells here in the next week! HA.  There just seems to be something about crows...

Crow Circles is a tiny bit of a take on crop circles. I like to use a sense of humor whenever I can with my work. Crows; those black birds that are often thought of in conjunction to dark things are actually full of color if you look at them in the light...I've used a bit of color on this guy..purples and blues. He's ready to ship on or about April 6, 2013 when he is fully dry. The nice 1.5" depth allows for sitting on a shelf, but his wire also allows for hanging in that perfect spot!

 HAPPY CREATING.

On a bit of a sad note...we in the art world here in Colorado are mourning the loss of KATHY BERLS; a local artist and friend who served the art community for over 25 years as a co-founder of Lakewood Arts Council, a manager of the long running, and still going strong South Union Gallery and co-op.  Kathy's oils are a beautiful example of light and shadow with her flowers and still life work.  I own her work as do many here and around the country.  Kathy was a friend and mentor that helped me immeasurably in my work when I first arrived.  She passed away nearly a week ago after a short and very hard fight with cancer. She will be sorely missed!

4"x4" oil on texture gallery wrap canvas

If you have ever wondered why I add the - a Crow...or any other descriptive term it is because search engines will like it better to have the description.  If someone is looking specifically for something they will type that word in...thus...the - ......:)

The little gallery wrap canvas is nice for these little guys sometimes...they can hang right on the wall OR sit alone on a shelf.  I paint these for my gallery in Conifer...Luna's Mandala.  But, until he is dry he is here and you can buy him directly from me!

"POPPY CONVERSATIONS" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA POPPY PAINTING © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Poppy Conversations"
18" x 48" mixed media on cradled panel
Available, for now, only on my WEBSITE

I had a ball painting this piece! It is one of those rare pieces where it came out mostly like I had in my head when I did my first sketch after the dream that LED to the sketch! YAY! I will be changing out the photo the first chance I get with a sunny day...but unfortunately we are in for cloudy weather for the next three days and I didn't want to wait that long!  HOWEVER, the color representation is fairly accurate on MY monitor anyway! YAY again!

On this painting I focused on the abstract qualities of the background a good little bit...I had in mind composition and balance before I even put the flowers in.  I spent a little time even on their stems...they are little works of art all on their own...I wish I could show it as it looks here in my studio!

There is acrylic, paper, modeling paste for texture (well, custom patch acting as modeling paste), and the poppies are oil in this painting.  YES, you can paint oil over acrylic...:)  I got to use some of my favorite new "brushes" in this painting. They are made of a pliable rubber that is impervious to heat and solvents, and the paint just wipes right off or peels off if it dries on...I've used them in my oils and acrylics, and they would also work great to create pattern with your watercolors! They are Catalyst by Princeton. I found mine at Meiningers here in Denver. They have a long handle...just perfect for any type of artwork!

Soon I will be taking Poppy Conversations to my gallery in Louisville; Creations Art and Gifts Fine Art , but for now it lives in my studio. Later this summer it will travel with me to the SUMMER ART MARKET, where I will be in BOOTH #38...I hope to see you there!! June 8 and 9 at the Art Students League in Denver...Stay tuned for more information!

until then...HAPPY CREATING!!

POPPY BEGINNINGS and NEW CLASSES!

I've begun a largish poppy painting with an abstract feel.  This detail shot shows the background process and a beginning of laying in strong color.  Poppies are such fun to paint...such strong orangy red color against the lighter background. CONTRAST is always a good way to go if you want it to grab attention.

I love layering with paint, paper and texture...then drawing in my poppies on top where I feel they would work into the composition the best.  This little section has a little of everything but the painted poppy...background layer, papers, added texture...FUN DOINS!

It's important to pay attention to detail as you can see I've begun to do in the top left corner...paint, texture...blending, but leaving some of what I've done in the background.  I can't say how it will come out in the end...but I'm liking the process so far!

You can see the whole piece in its beginning stages...papers, paint, sketching, texture...all layering...I've begun to paint the poppies so I can work the whole piece together with what I've done in the background so far...This is by far my favorite way to work.

I've worked with more attention to the abstract qualities of this painting.  Something I've been studying for awhile now.  WHICH BRINGS ME TO...new things that are going to be offered that I will speak more about in coming days.

I am working on series of lessons that I will be offering to small groups of people up HERE IN MY MOUNTAIN SETTING!  The working title will be "LUNCH AND LEARN".  I've revamped my lower level into a classroom and will be offering a morning of learning capped off with lunch up here in our little escape from the city location! FUN DOINS!  I believe I will be focusing on the concept of ABSTRACT in the beginning as that is what I've learned is a strong interest.  HOWEVER, there are many different subjects and projects I will be offering throughout the summer months and on until the snows start flowing again!!  IF you are interested in receiving more information on these classes please e-mail me at art4life44@hotmail.com! SO, be watching for more on my Lunch and Learn offerings in coming days!

HAPPY CREATING!!

"ELK VISIT" ORIGINAL OIL MINI FOR MY ETSY SHOP © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Elk Visit"
4"x4" oil on panel
$25 +2.95 shipping in US

This elk may not look huge in this little mini, but he was HUGE! I've been meaning to paint him for awhile...this is my first moment with him...who knows, I suspect he may show up in future paintings...I love the way he got so close, and the way the sun backlit his antlers and how calm he was with me! FUN DOINS!

As always with my ETSY paintings...the sides are painted black...he can be framed as is...set on an easel, but I caution you on this one, his antlers are close to the edge...with a 4"x4" frame it takes 1/4" on the edges, so it may crowd him in there...so, the option is the free backer board I offer to mount these mini's on so they can be framed as the EXAMPLE below with all sides showing in a 5"x5" frame.

frame suggestion...frames like this can be found at Michaels craft stores.

SO, it's been snowing a lot the past month...I've been trapped in my house more than I enjoy..but, as always I try to find inspiration as I can...so the following pics are me finding inspiration!!

yep, I was a little depressed when the storm started, so I put bunny (watch for this guy in ETSY in the near future) in front to buffer the snow on my heart! HA
yep, even though the sun came out...it's still bunches of snow as you will see, so the orchids buffered this morning!! :)
a challenge for you abstract artists out there...what kind of compositions can YOU find!! :)
yes, I know...it's pretty...good shadows...good composition...sigh...but it's COLD! :)
tell me this snow plop on top of one of our trees doesn't look like a walrus???
I call this "Burried"...:) I still think this would make an interesting painting...
I love the contrast of color on my pinecones!

AND, I've been dreaming and sketching...I'm excited to see the end results of these sketches...literally they were a dream!! FUN DOINS!
HAPPY CREATING!

"BIRDY'S GOT BACK" ORIGINAL OIL MINI ON PANEL FOR ETSY © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Birdy's Got Back"
4x4" oil on panel with stamping
$25 plus +2.95 shipping in the US
I took this photo a couple of days ago of this little one with his back to me and I found it charming and a little funny, so I just had to paint him for my ETSY shop.  I gave him a bit more color, so I guess you could say he has fauvist tendancies, and I like him this way!  This isn't my first from the back painting...in fact, I have been painting things from behind for many years...I find it interesting if you can capture a feeling without a face...you decide if it was successful for you or not!

As always, Birdy has black painted sides, and I offer a black backer board that is 5"x5" for framing a little larger so as to let all the sides show.  You can see how much backer shows when framed in a 5"x5" frame below.

I have also been working on a small project for my bathroom...of the beachy theme variety.  I LOVE when I go visit my most wonderful son in San Diego...I always leave there knowing that all things beach and ocean will always bring a tug of love into my heart because he is there and I miss him...SO, I brought back a sand dollar that I've framed and a starfish sculpture that also had to be framed...FUN DOINS!! Don't forget about taking care of yourself and your home as you work...it brings a good feeling and a happy balance to working as an artist!

HAPPY CREATING!

"ASPEN ON GUANELLA PASS" ORIGINAL OIL ON GALLERY WRAP CANVAS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Aspen on Guenella Pass"
12" x 4" mixed on gallery wrap canvas
$85 + $8 shipping in US

This strong contrast piece is a bit of oil and paper all rolled into one.  I LOVE, LOVE adding paper to my compositions when I can...it's just a little more ME!  I wanted to show the whole piece, thus the photo expanded to the wall a bit...This gallery wrap canvas is 1.5" deep. This is from our trip to visit the aspen this past year up Guenella Pass above Georgetown here in lovely Colorado.  There is an area where the aspen are so tall and skinny...those are my favorites of all!

Yesterday I was trapped up here once again...SNOW...AGAIN...but I enjoyed our visitors ouside my kitchen window...They are so comfortable with me now they often don't even turn around to check me out...
I call this one "Backsides"...not only are the deer not interested in smiling at me, but a little other visitor was showing me his "best side" as well...tee hee!

I call this "Birdy's Got Back"...
and, FINALLY...I got a profile at least...

and, then...I get these moments to see my grandson...and suddenly the snow doesn't seem SO bad...
His dad called this one "Big Gulp"...

HAPPY CREATING!
