I have been also working on bedroom curtains.  I'm learning when I need to get a lot done I just take things one step at a time.  I have a lot of e-mails from followers, asking how I do all I do...and that is the answer...one step, one day at a time! I work best when I have several projects going all at once...these curtains are a many step process...choosing fabrics AFTER I've decided colors, measuring many times, planning, sketching how I want them...etc...those of you that sew you know what I'm talking about...so, in between steps, I will escape to my studio to paint a little...I always have a few ideas ready, and supports ready...I may sketch and then go sew...then paint, then sew...It's all FUN, so I try not to get stressed...key word TRY! lol

I have finished one set of curtains for my bedroom.  It was really hard to get a good photo as you can see they are backlit this morning...but I think you get the idea!  I have to make these curtains just below the windowsill as there is an electric heating bank at the bottom.  The rule of thumb for hanging curtains and a windowsill is about 2" below the sill....  I lined these curtains with fabric I found at the thrift store no less!  What a find!

Our previous curtains were gathered on a rod with a valance in front.  I always hated pulling them back and forth, so I designed these to hang from curtain rings for ease of opening and closing.  I also decided to contemporize them a little and "build" the valance into the curtain so we just have one thing to slide open and closed...thus the 10" "valance" sewn into the curtain fabric.  That is just step 1...if you look closely you can see black tie backs and holes in the wall...they all have to be either painted, filled or eliminated.  I will wait to see how I want to do this.  Those are steps 2 and 3 for just this window...THEN I begin the larger curtains that will span a sliding glass door.  They will be made largely with the strip you see here with a front end of the floral fabric that makes the window curtains.  AFTER that I will change what is on the walls (thank goodness I'm an artist) and add embellishments to our bedspread...paint a dresser and add a new lamp...STAY TUNED...It may take a bit, but it will be done! I'm playing around with painting all the woodwork white...I'd LOVE that...but we don't own this house, so I have to ask...not that our wonderful landlord will mind...he loves us...thank goodness!!

SO, the key to getting it all done? ORGANIZATION...I do it pretty good sometimes...SO, my next little ETSY is this adorably ugly, SO ugly he's cute Mocking bird baby...FUN DOINS!

this photo is compliments of my blogger friend Karen Hargett who graciously allows me to paint her critters...Isn't she a FANTASTIC photographer!!

Following my theme for myself for the summer I've begun another project for our home...this time BEDROOM CURTAINS and additions to my current bedspread...Right now it's merely a jumble of color...DIFFERENT color for me...and so much FUN!!  This will necessitate changes to dresser color and bed skirt; which I don't think will be a skirt at all, but something a little different...don't worry, I'll show you the end result!!
Wish me luck with all of this more than 15 yards of fabric!!  WHEW!

SUMMER FUN WITH DECOR, NEW IDEAS, AND COMMISSSIONS!

This summer has been a huge variety of play and paint and new ideas...I've had the idea for a long time to make "doilies" out of canvas...I'm always needing a little sumpin to put under sumpin else on my tables and have been trying to contemporize the doily.  This Star Mat is canvas, stitching and brads...but the possibilities are practically endless!!

It started with a theme...sketching on canvas...then cutting out where I wanted...
a little acrylic paint watered down a bit
adding a little stitching and brads for this one
and there you have it...
I'm now working on a round one with leaves, and I hope more mixed media...STAY TUNED!

I can't believe time is going by so quickly...our daughter-in-law is expecting our second grandchild!!  November is coming quickly and I'm already thinking of what painting for this little one's nursery!! They asked...I didn't insist...:)  They have decided on birch trees in yellow, white and grey...and we are playing around with adding a fun little giraffe or ostrich peeking out from the trees...We are waiting to know who we are having until the final details are in place, but what better subject matter for this grandma artist than TREES to start with!!  Magenta for a girl and Lime Green for a boy to accent their yellow, white and grey! FUN DOINS!  My beautiful daughter-in-law Katie Galloway...with little him or her Galloway happily coming along quite nicely!!

My sister-in-law Lori saw my ETSY "G" and commissioned me to paint her a larger version 16"x16"...We are calling this guy "Big G"...ha...

AND...I'm still having fun with décor for our own home...Just finished painting this round antique table that had seen much better days...The paint just made this piece...and I've got three more to paint..(one in turquoise!! WOW).so FUN DOINS at my house as well!!

I'm starting to enjoy the new look of my home...

And, FINALLY, I couldn't let this post go by without sneaking in a peek of my now almost 2 YEAR OLD grandson Paxton...Getting ready for nite nite with his Grandma and Grandpa Grimes while mommy and daddy were away on a much needed two day anniversary trip...doesn't this little face just scream "I miss my parents"? HA...no guilt intended I'm  sure!!
I hope this finds you happily having some summer fun of your own!!
