"I DREAMED OF A CROW" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA ON CANVAS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

12"x12" mixed media on canvas
$150 + $12 shipping in the US
This crow has found a private spot to have a berry snack.  The textured, scraped background gives this piece a dream like quality. Painted on a 3/4" stretched canvas it is ready to hang or frame.

WOW, this summer has been a busy one!  I am literally at times running from one project to another...I don't mind...I find it keeps the creative juices flowing!

I am also painting several for my galleries simultaneously as well as working on a painting for my own house!  I am getting ready to take a lot of work to three galleries, which leaves my own home a bit bare...so, I long for a peaceful painting for our walls.  This white barn (sitting at the bottom of our mountain neighborhood) will sit atop a meadow.  My goal is simplicity...so stay tuned!

My daughter's mother-in-law's sister-in-law (what would that make her to me?? LOL) took this funny photo of their dog...I'm dying to paint a little ETSY of him...FUNNY!!
and...
I gave myself permission to HATE my bedroom curtains...TOO CIRCUSY for me...so I went neutral this time so I could ADD pops of color!  MUCH BETTER!!  There is a leaf pattern in there too; which just so happens to match the leaves on my
bedspread!!  YIPPEE!!

and...
The FIND of the summer...we were coming home from A Taste of Colorado and our neighbors; who are moving had out front a dresser PERFECT for my new guest room for FREE!!  I've already prepped it for painting! FUN DOINS!!  Hubby thought I was crazy, but I ignored him this time!! :)

and...

While traveling to Louisville I captured this bit of mountain from my moving car...no worries, I didn't take my eyes of the road!!
Busy, happy days in this artist's world!!  I hope you are finding some of the same!!

"SIX RED POPPIES" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA ON CRADLED PANEL © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

24"x24" mixed media on cradled panel
$700
Red poppies will brighten any room! Summer is always in our hearts and a happy thing to grace your walls!  Painted in acrylic, acid free paper, and oil this cradled piece is ready to hang!  Stained on the sides to compliment.

This is a bright and happy painting that I hated at first because there was a bigger poppy among the others...Take a look at a poppy field...they are the same size...remember never to be afraid of wiping out...and re-working something that isn't working.  The best tip I have for someone who is not too happy with a painting...walk away and come back later...often you will see the offending section right away!

"MOUNTAIN MEADOW" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA ON CRADLED PANEL © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Mountain Meadow"
24"x24"
Mixed Media on Cradled Panel

A friend of mine allowed me to use her mountain photo of this beautiful mountain meadow. The original photo had a pathway and a big rock in the foreground, but I decided to add the deer visitor I had recently on my back deck...Most of it is painted in acrylic, with my papers added in...but the deer is painted in oil.  This one is off to my gallery in Louisville next week...I haven't stained the sides yet, so it isn't even in my website yet.

I've been really busy working on several paintings at once for several galleries...poppies are on my easel now.  Stay tuned!!

I had the owners who commissioned me to paint their Cairn puppies in my studio recently.  I asked them to give me a few pointers as they know their babies well...they were reluctant at first, but when I explained it would be of benefit the husband suggested that the front pup; Forrest was "beefier"...so, while they were here I painted him beefier...and they were thrilled.  It is a GOOD THING to interact with your collectors when you can...it makes the whole experience a little more personal...here is the final version of "Darby and Forrest"

I'm always, ALWAYS on the lookout for photo moments...This time it was a little visitor to my yard and my geraniums and zinnias...ENJOY!

COMMISSION: "ABBY'S PUPS" ORIGINAL OIL ON CANVAS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Abby's Pups"
12x12" oil on canvas
COMMISSION

This is a commission I just completed of my friend Abby's Cairn pups named Darby and Forrest.  Sorry for the glare on the photo folks...the lighting is terrible early this morning!! sigh!  I'd never painted these types of dogs before....it was fun to play with all that hair going every which way, and a challenge as the photo I had wasn't the absolute best, so we had a photo session so I could see detail as well.  A good challenge for any artist to put two of anything in one canvas...you might just LOVE one, and the other one you fight with.  These little guys went rather well, but as you can see in the photo I moved Forrest on the right over a bit to fit the square composition.

Darby

Forrest

Cairn pups are mostly white as I've learned, but in reality both dogs have gotten quite dark...however, we decided to keep Darby lighter for contrast, so the challenge was to make sure their little faces and markings were decidedly "them".  I sent a preview to Abby and she just loved it, so I will call this one a success!

I thought a lot about the "black" in them, and have put a bit of color within the dark for added interest.  They were sitting in their owners laps in the photo, but the portrait was all about their faces, so I gave the portrait a rather "painterly" look.  Their eyes are little black marbles, so I replaced the white scary from the photo with the eyes I saw from my reference photos.

I don't do many commissions, but this one was interesting to me, and for a friend, so I was glad to attempt it.  I'm keeping these photos on the down-low as it is a surprise for Abby's hubby!  Hope he likes it as much as Abby!

I've just picked up a new "temporary" gallery in Wheat Ridge for a 3 month show beginning in October, so I will be quite busy creating new work and juggling work from my other two! WHEW...and, the holidays are right around the corner and I have a wonderful mother who is wanting some fun stuff!!  SO, off I go (oh yes, still making curtains and painting furniture....photos when things are completed!

HAPPY CREATING!!

"MOCKINGBIRD BABY" ORIGINAL 4X4" OIL ON TEXTURED PANEL © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Mockingbird Baby"
4x4" oil on textured panel
SOLD, thank you IRINA!

This little baby is so ugly she's cute! Take her home and giggle every time you walk by! "Mockingbird Baby" is painted on a 4x4" textured panel with black sides. Ready for framing in a 4x4" frame or sitting on an easel as is! (Remember a 4x4 frame takes a little from the sides, so if you prefer, at no extra cost, I can mount her on a 5x5" black backer board so she can be framed with all sides showing! The frame is not included, but you can find frames like this at Michaels. "Mockingbird Baby" will be ready to ship on or near August 10, 2013 when she is dry!

Thanks to Karen Hargett for the wonderful photo to paint from!!

AUGUST CALENDAR, RAINBOWS, AND WORDS

Wow, it's August already!!  This page is simple, but BUSY as you can see...and, that's just BD's and a few other appointments...hang on Saundra!!  I LOVE, LOVE sunflowers...so, in honor of my BD month (which, I now see I forgot to put a bd cupcake on) I just stamped sunflowers...ENOUGH is OK!

I'm busy in the studio and sewing lab as I have been...almost finished with Mockingbird baby (had to paint her in minutes here and there), making 2 2' cradles for 2 new paintings, finishing a panel of curtain and...oh yes, picking color for next furniture project...WHEW...I need a nap! lol

We are in our monsoon season...we need the rain, OK...I can handle that...and I'm loving the rainbows that come!

Some of you may know that I also write for another blog of mine called Godly Perspectives.  I usually write something when my life needs a little tweaking, or I've had an experience, or someone I love is struggling...Today's post is a big one...It's about friends...I thought I'd add a link to it...cuz, we ALL need friends...Sometimes in life we meet people that need a little more than we first realized...and it's OK if they are a little needy...but it's also important to understand what we can and can not do for them...so, lesson learned for this girl...and on we go...I wish I could save the world, but if I could even try I think I wouldn't be fit for anyone who might want me for a friend!! lol

It's back to the studio!!
