"BABY IMPALA" ORIGINAL OIL ON TEXTURED PANEL © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY
I'm back at working on the baby animals for my little grandson's nursery. This little baby impala was their choice for a deer like animal that is found in Africa. Of course this little guy is not for sale, but as I've done for the other baby animals I've made it available as a print from my account at FINE ART AMERICA.

Boy, I can't believe it took me SO long to finish Aspen in Blue....but FINALLY...here tis! I've now been feeling the pull to do some more baby animals for my coming grandson's nursery...I've got a Cheetah, Zebra, Impala and Ostrich left to do...FUN!
I have another bit of press, but I think it's funny! WAY BACK WHEN...I won a contest with Arnold Grummer (the big paper supply company)...and they asked me to write something in the way of a description of my paper casting process and asked me to find green ways to frame my paper casts and wax collages...So, I did...
Yesterday I was just looking around and found a new paper casting book by Arnold Grummer...and lo and behold I found what the editor did to my big long thing...page 81 of his new book titled "trash to treasure papermaking" by Arnold Grummer...a few sentences! HA...but, I'm very honored to have made this much in the book as I know the editing process is grueling and those that write it often don't have much of a say...life lessons from the world of editing! I was a little concerned until I found my name in the back under Acknowledgements...so...yea...a little more press; though I doubt anyone who reads how to make their own brass forms like I invented will ever know it was me...sigh...but STILL...a little press! YEA! Besides...it is a well written book with some great information for those of us who enjoy working in this medium!

IN THE PRESS!
There has been SO much going on these past few weeks, and especially the last few days that I haven't been able to work in my studio like I wish I could...sigh...but I'm inching along I promise!
The latest ad in Southwest Art has come out and I'm happy to say my poppies are in it! YEA! Always fun to have a little press!
The Summer Art Market is beginning the promotional sweep, so put that on your calendar. I don't have a booth assignment yet, but that will be coming SOON!
I sold a couple of paintings last week...say goodbye to Aspen Angle and Trunks!
We have a fire burning about 8 miles up our mountain road, so I'm watching it carefully. My husband asked me what I would want to take if we were evacuated and I told him...birth certificates, pictures of the kids, the gold heart my son got me when he was 5 and, oh...all my paintings! HA...I'm not sure we will have time to get them all...sigh...keep a good thought for us. So far THAT fire hasn't burned any structures, but the wind is blowing in our direction, so my fingers are crossed. COME ON RAIN!
Two days ago I was at the mall sitting in my Estee Lauder make-up chair getting a little touch up and direction on how to do my eyebrows, she had done ONE, when a police officer came running through the store yelling that we all needed to GET OUT NOW!...So, of course we did...we were unsure as to whether it was a fire, or gun men running throughout...
Later we found out someone had started a fire attached to two propane tanks which makes it a bomb...long story short...it was the anniversary of the Columbine shootings and we later found out that there were two bombs left. Thankfully they did not go off, but a bit scary still...We are hoping they catch the man responsible very quickly and...to keep this light...I need to go back for my other eyebrow! sigh...Yep, busy days!
I promise...JUST after I go look at a possible house to move to I'm back in this studio to finish "Aspen in Blue"!...sheesh...I know you've heard THAT before!
I feel a little like I have artist ADD...(not intended to make fun of anyone with that, I promise)...I need to finish Aspen in Blue, but I just couldn't resist picking up oak leaves to soak so I can make impressions of them for a mold...GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF GIRL...ONE THING AT A TIME!! (I'm smiling sheepishly right now...) :)

BACK HOME and DULY INSPIRED!
Home again and as soon as I do those perfunctory things that go with returning from a trip I will be back at the ole easel. First is to finish the blue aspen piece begun at my demo for Wheat Ridge Art Guild, and then I'm sure I'll be painting for my new grandson due in August and of course painting for the SUMMER ART MARKET in June at the Art Students League building in Denver! WHEW!
I have a couple more pics from the trip that somehow didn't find there way here sooner...as always, remember for my followers you are always welcome to paint from any photo I post. I believe in sharing images...because it is awesome how we all interpret in our own ways! I only ask that you send me a pic of what you created so I can ooh and aah!
This is camel back rock that is near Santa Fe...a little blurry as I took it from a moving car!
This is me at the Chuck Jones studio in Santa Fe. If you don't remember he is the one who created characters like Wiley Coyote as well as some others. This is for my brother David who is a wonderful caricature artist!
Another old church just outside of Santa Fe...At first I thought that was a six below the cross...but if you look closely it is just a shadow! HA.
Being the tree lover that I am you KNEW I was going to find something tree to capture...I loved all these little pine cones on what I think were junipers...They are all open like flowers. I don't know if they are just that way, or they were spent, or the birds liked something inside of them which caused them to open like this...no matter...they are FUN!

TAOS and SAN FRANCISCO DE ASIS
We had a decision to make yesterday whether we were going to go hiking around the Namba Lake or go to Taos so I could photograph the famous church San Francisco De Asis...Yep, the church won...which turned out to be a good choice for many reasons; one being it was really WINDY and would have been exhausting to hike in that...yippee for me...tee hee!
Back tracking a bit...loved this shot of the New Mexico moon our first night here...On to Taos...I took about a hundred pics of that old church front and back...
Then on it to Taos to see their galleries. I found them nice, but a little less organized than in Santa Fe, but still fun!
On the way back to Santa Fe we drove past a fire that was by the river that has grown quite a bit...sigh...there were three fires in New Mexico yesterday...I guess it is every where!
Today we are headed back home, and I'm glad. Although it was good to have some new surroundings, it is time to get back to work; which for me is getting ready for the June Summer Art Market and for my hubby...finding a JOB!

ON THE WAY TO SANTA FE AND THERE...
It was a bit of a hazy day Friday when we left for Santa Fe, but Pikes Peak near Colorado Springs is never a sad sight to see!
Colorado Mountain just above Colorado City isn't as grand perhaps, but still...you gotta love those mountains!
Even hazier still...you can still make out the Spanish Peaks near Walsenburg...
You've gotta appreciate the difference between Colorado Mountains and those of New Mexico...I can just see how Georgia O'Keeffe found her inspiration with her blues and golds...
And speaking of Georgia...Yes, of course I dropped in her museum there...but I have to say it was somewhat disappointing...for a museum so close to the Ghost Ranch (some 50 miles out of town) there weren't that many recognizable pieces...sigh...but, I'm still glad I stopped in!
And, it just wouldn't be Santa Fe without at least one pic of those famous chili peppers!
The local venders were all out in a large group...all lined up against the wall just across from the Plaza where it just so happened that there was a Tea Party rally...but my eye was on their beautiful jewelry!
You've gotta love that architecture!...
It's EVERYWHERE!
I'm sure there is a painting or two in here somewhere!
I just had to close this little tour with this cute little one sitting in the fence...In fact there were TONS of little birds sitting in the fence that day! Interesting!! Haven't looked up just what kind of bird it was...but what a cutie!!
I hope you are all HAPPILY CREATING!!

A LITTLE R&R
Gold Mountain in Santa Fe
Yea, sure...it's gonna look like that in April! HA!
It's been a busy few weeks at our house...YES, we are FINALLY actually planning to move so packing has begun. The job just hasn't materialized YET, but things are in the works! Apparently with big corporations it takes FOREVER to get things moving...so, it's the old phrase "Hurry up and wait". I think my husband is better at that than I am, so while we are in a waiting pattern; knowing something is coming we decided to get away for a little R&R.
Soon we are headed to Santa Fe for a few days to drink in the culture there and take what I hope will be TONS of pics and just laugh and play a bit.
When we are back I will be hitting the "getting ready for Summer Art Market" really hard, along with finishing the safari animal portraits for my grandson who should make his arrival somewhere around my birthday in August! YEA!...SO, lots to do, but first...PLAY!
HAPPY CREATING!!

I FINALLY got a moment to finish my CARROT still life. The carrots are painted in oil as I absolutely LOVE the way oil can be blended and applied. Just in time for Easter...for those of you who think of Easter as bunnies and carrots and candy!
Good news...I found out recently that I will be participating in the SUMMER ART MARKET for Art Students League this June 11 and 12...I hope those of you in the area will be able to come by to see this work in person...and let me meet you! I notice when I see my work on other computer scenes I am NOT happy with the visual! I've noticed that my colors in life are richer and more true...but what are we going to do...all computers are their own beast and show things as they show things!
I've decided to play with my paper casting again in conjunction with my aspen pieces...I've been looking for a way to do work that can be put under glass...stay tuned!!

GETTING BACK IN THE GAME...SLOWLY BUT SURELY!
Well...here it goes...getting back in it a little. I HATE to just stop...but, with some things in life sometimes it is necessary! I'd LOVE to say all things stressful and crazy are over, but they aren't, HOWEVER, the happy news is I feel able to work again and for THAT I am MOST grateful!
To begin I've started a piece with carrots. I have several in process, but with my new beginning I wanted to START a piece from the beginning...stay tuned for the FUN process...JUST in time for easter...tee hee!
