"RAVEN'S PERCH" AND "ACORN TRIO MINI" ORIGINAL OIL ON TEXTURED CANVAS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Raven's Perch"
6"x12" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap textured canvas
$100 +$10 shipping and handling in US

"Raven's Perch" is temporarily on hold as it was a request of a client at one of my galleries. This is a wonderful example of how these birds watch and wait at times.  Perhaps this is why they are associated with wisdom in Nordic tradition!  Painted on 1.5" deep gallery wrap textured canvas "Raven's Perch" is ready to hang.

"Acorn Trio Mini"
4"x4" on 1.5" deep gallery wrap textured canvas with paper
$45 +$6.95 shipping and handling in US

This little acorn mini was a request, so it is on hold pending collector approval.  Just a buttery view of those beautiful nuts from our mighty oaks.  It's unique depth allows for hanging or sitting on a shelf!

AND speaking of acorns, I was looking at my "Six Acorns" the other day and just decided I didn't like the frame it was in, so I switched out...I think I'm liking the gold one much better...what do you think?

It's been really FOGGY up here the past few days; VERY unusual for Colorado, but I was up the mountain at my gallery in Conifer and snapped this bit of sun shining on one of our remaining aspens and got what I think is a great result!
And with this bit of sunshine I will get back to my busy day...HAPPY CREATING!!!!

"DIMPLES" AN OSTRICH IS AN ORIGINAL OIL ON TEXTURED CRADLED PANEL © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY and a CAUTIONARY TALE TO TELL!

4"x4" oil on textured 3/4" cradled panel
$40 +5.50 shipping and handling in the US

"Dimples" has quite a sunny personality; although you may not see it at first.  Her dimples imply the happy girl underneath all that bravado!  But, regardless, look at those beautiful eyes she has!  Dimples is painted on a textured cradled panel that has black painted sides.  She is perfect to hang as is in that spot where you can see her and smile, or sit on a shelf or an easel.  She can even be framed!  "Dimples" is traveling to my gallery in Conifer, but if you don't live near enough to visit Luna's Mandala in person, just let me know and I'll gather her up and ship her to you!

My grandson, Paxton and his parents went to the Pumpkin Patch over the weekend...I'm grateful to my lovely daughter, who is an incredible photographer and shares all the photos...It helps so much to be able to see events in this way when I cannot be there!  I think Paxton found a pumpkin!

I think Paxton and mommy had FUN!!
checkin out the goats...he wasn't too sure at first...it's probably in his genes...his momma was terrified of them! lol
I think daddy loves his boy too!  Just look at that precious face! Who wouldn't love him!! tee hee...

NOW, I have a cautionary tale to tell so that you can be armed in case you ever encounter this...As you have probably read, I recently added a third gallery.  This one was in Wheat Ridge, CO.  Things seemed to be going fine; I'd already sold a piece in fact...AND THEN, one day I sold a painting independently through my website, so I contacted the owner and asked if I could come get it and replace it with another.  All was fine, I went to pick it up and noticed that some paintings seemed to be a higher price than I had set, but wasn't positive.  I picked up the sold painting, and grabbed the card that was on the wall with it to clean off the space.  On the way home I glanced at the card and noticed the price was marked quite a bit higher than the sales price listed on the back of the painting and on my website!  This was upsetting!  I had the distinct impression that they were trying to get MORE money than the commission we'd set in the contract!  I contacted them and told them this was NOT ACCEPTABLE and I would be by in the morning to take my work out.  The REASON I acted so quickly is that I was never made aware of their price gouging (the way I see it), I felt they were taking advantage, it wasn't ethical practice; people would see the different prices and it would make me look dishonest, and they had destroyed trust!  That last one is huge...if you can't trust the gallery in which you entrust your work, there IS NO BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP that will work anymore!  I encourage those of you who are in a gallery to check in from time to time...keep that business relationship healthy...they need to hear from you and you need to check in with them!

I am very happy with my decision...my reputation remains in tact, my work is back with me and available to do with what I please, and my collectors will know they have an honest person to work with!! (I guess that's just restating point one, but it is important!)

HAPPY CREATING!!

The symbolism in this painting is strong...wisdom comes from facing the light, as this Raven is facing the textural symbolic sun.  A great small work painted on 1 1/2" deep textured canvas that can hang or sit on a shelf!

"LOOKING BACK - A RAVEN" ORIGINAL OIL ON TEXTURED 1.5" DEEP GALLERY WRAP CANVAS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

4"x4" oil on textured gallery wrap canvas
$45 +$6.95 shipping in the US
you can see him soon at Luna's Mandala

Every time I photographed this guy his background came out looking blue, but in fact he has a very neutral tan background much more accurately depicted in the side view...aarrggh!...Gotta love the world of photographing artwork!!

"Looking Back" a Raven is perfect symbolism for the wisdom that Ravens are associated with in Nordic beliefs.  Can't you just see how wisdom is gained from the knowledge of our past success and failures!  He's just right for that bird lover needing a little bit of wisdom in that perfect spot!  He can be hung or, because of his unique depth he can sit on a shelf as a reminder of the wisdom we all need to navigate this ole life!

HAPPY CREATING!

A strong fellow just posing for a moment.  For the Raven lover; those who value wisdom; which is one of the symbols of the Raven!  Ready to hang in that perfect spot, or it's unique 1 1/2" depth allows you to sit him just about anywhere! Remember each monitor reads color a bit differently.  The background for this portrait has neutral tan with a bit of the blue from the bird himself. I'd say a bit between the full pic and the side view...this one was a tickle to photograph!!

"THE EYE OF THE RAVEN" ORIGINAL OIL ON TEXTURED GALLERY WRAP CANVAS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

4"x4" oil on textured gallery wrap canvas
$45 +$6.95 shipping in US

My gallery in Conifer has been asking for Raven paintings...small ones for the holidays.  Apparently there are a lot of Raven fans in the area...so "The Eye of the Raven" is the first in a series.

A little powerhouse painting of a Raven.  It's 4"x4" size allows him to fit just about anywhere.  He can hang, or, because of his depth of 1.5" he can sit on a shelf!  The raven is symbolism of the mind, thought and wisdom according to Norse legend, so with this guys "eye" on you, it can only be a good thing!!  This painting is available through Luna's Mandala.  If you are interested and out of state, contact me and I will bring him home to send to you!!

Today is my most wonderful son; Jonathan's Birthday!  I find days like these I miss him extra much!  He is my first born, and my only son, and I love him like crazy!!  Most of us have a picture of our children that pop up when we think of them...this one is my "pop up" memory.  His was about 1 1/2 and was going to climb a mountain by himself...I remember he even told me so right before I shot this photo!
Well, now he is 33 years old and I am just as crazy about him as I was back then..no...MORE!  He has been immortalized in paint by my friend Carol Nelson,
and he is so talented in so many ways as well, including the skateboard!!  I love you Jonathan...Have a HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!  Always and Forever, MOM

I'm also celebrating fall today!  Here are a few shots from our area!!  The big ole rock attracts many climbers...and my red barn meadow is always pretty...The scrub oak have really been colorful this year! ENJOY!

HAPPY CREATING!!

"THE WHITE BARN" FIRST IN A SERIES OF MIXED MEDIA LONG SKINNIES © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"The White Barn"
36"x12"
Mixed Media on cradled Panel
Private Collection

A bit of new for me...no trees, no rocks...just barn and field with my papers added.  The idea for this painting came from a painting I saw not long ago in my husband's dental office...there were planes described with metals or color or something that made me decide to add texture in a very linear way.  The two sections under the barn have texture added with a modeling paste type material and painted in different colors to divide the space in an interesting way.  My intent was to create a simple barn on a simple plane.  From there came the color and visual texture with paper and stamps.

Since I painted it for a spot in my home, I added star stamps to compliment the star doors that it will hang next to as well as remind me of my Texas mom!  Note the bits of sky color I added in the foreground to bring a bit of unity.  The foreground is a multi layer bit of dry brush over color washes to bring some depth, and papers added for visual texture and interest.

I enjoyed painting this...The change for me was to think of the sky as merely a space that I wanted to bring added interest to.  I added papers; not to mimic clouds, but as a nod to the whimsical.  It makes me think of early drawings we did as children where we made visual lines to depict sky.  I am so happy with this first effort I think it will be a first in a series...FUN DOINS!

OCTOBER and TEXTURE in painting

WOW, October 9th and I'm just getting my October calendar page made! Oops!  I already see a birthday that didn't get a cupcake! SORRY DIANA!  I'll fix that! Thank goodness I didn't forget my friend and co-grandma...just her cupcake!

October has been a busy month so far!  I started a new part time job at Hallmark! Sometimes you have to do what you have to do!!  LOVE MY JOB, and my BOSS Jenna and my CO-WORKERS!  I'm having fun, but it means a busy schedule, and better organization (yep, 9 days late on calendar page!)...but I'll get there!

With the new job comes new realizations that I'm not 20 anymore and can't juggle as many things as I used to...sigh...BUT, I remain positive that with a little focused organization and some carefully decided no's I will be able to produce art, work, keep the house (and all that goes with that job), and enjoy some ME time too!!  HOW do you ask...??? Well, take care of myself first...I've been fighting some allergies and other various sick stuff...so I had to re-evaluate what I can do; the first thing was to get better rest, and proper medication to take care of various sicknesses...that has begun to work! YAY! Second was to make a hard decision that I just can't juggle health issues and work and such AND do demos and workshops right now...so, mainly due to illness I had to cancel my demo on PAPER CASTING for Ken Caryl.  I HATE to cancel things, but my body just couldn't do it...so, no more of those for the time being...at least until I get used to the new life!  It's OK to say no to things, to back up and take care of yourself...I feel bad, but my body said no! SIGH.!  Sorry Ken Caryl! I know they wanted me to double up on my medication and do it anyway, but the toll would have been too much...I think I just need to say no upfront from now on...for awhile...

SO, with my "day off" I am beginning a painting for our house...Remember the 7th anniversary hinged doors we bought each other? WELL...I've been wanting to paint something to hang next to it...and I'm needing a simpler format; for me anyway; and that translates to painting a simple landscape with the white barn that I photographed from the bottom of our neighborhood...
The format will be a long skinny...36" x 12"...and the FUN thing is I am going to play with texture a little...

I was inspired to put texture in this piece when I saw a painting of a tree landscape at my husbands dentist office that used texture in this way; sort of...some funky texture bits spanned across the piece and other things, but it inspired me to do things MY WAY, but using the idea...It will break up the long part of the foreground, keeping it simple "ish"...STAY TUNED...I'm going to paint today! FUN DOINS!

Another part of the no's I have to incorporate in my new circumstances is that I have to wait a bit to see my beautiful daughter and hubby and my sweet Paxton; who is 2 already!!  No trips for awhile...I miss my family, but gotta work,...So, I'm not just saying no to demo's!  And, my kids aren't asking me to double up on my medication and come anyway! HA (oops, my angst is showing...sorry!)  So, my little guy is reading after naps now...he's just such a delight...so, for those of you who ask to be updated on him...here he is with my girl wishing me happy happy on my first day of work!!  I love my family!!

SO, the thought for the day is TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF, because there is only ONE of you, and IF you DON'T you will not be able to do anything for anyone!!  WHEW...

HAPPY CREATING!!
