"OBEE O - AN OSTRICH" © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Obee O - an Ostrich"
4"x4" oil on panel
$35

Obee O - an Ostrich. Doesn't he just look like he has all the knowledge of the universe!! A strong and healthy fellow for sure, just waiting to grace you with all his wisdom if you'll just take a chance on him! Obee O is painted in oil on a 4"x4" panel. He can sit on a small easel like is shown in the display example (easel not included, but you can find them at Hobby Lobby and Michaels), OR you can frame him in your favorite 4x4 frame (keep in mind framing takes 1/2" on all sides, OR you can pick your favorite matt board color, cut in 5"x5" and then frame him in your favorite 5"x5" frame with all his sides showing.

"DARK ANNIE - AN OSTRICH IN A MOOD" ORIGINAL OIL ON PANEL © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Dark Annie - an Ostrich in a Mood"
4"x4" oil on panel
SOLD

This girl is just in a mood for sure...aren't we all at times?  What a great gift for yourself or a friend who needs to laugh at those moody days we have!

Well, winter has come in and reminded us of the work involved when it snows! Poor hubby is out with the snowblower...and after the LONG driveway we have three decks.  This is the price for living up here in the mountains...when we were younger it was no biggie, but as time goes on...all that shoveling gets to a person!
no bbq's for us in the near future!

even the birds are holed up somewhere...

Yep, no deck time for us!

so, about 15" this time...brrr, so glad for a cozy warm inside!

"TWO OF A KIND" OSTRICH FRIENDS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Two of a Kind" Ostrich Friends
4"x4" oil on panel
$37
Available through my ETSY shop
I really enjoyed painting this ostrich duo!  I always have fun painting ostrich's, but there are two this time, so twice the fun!
It would be as simple as putting these girls on a small easel, or you could mount them on your favorite matte board color in 5"x5" and frame them in a 5x5 frame so all their sides show! FUN AGAIN!

"LADY O - AN OSTRICH" © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Lady O - an Ostrich"
4"x4" oil on panel

Lady O is my latest Ostrich sweetie.  I find her quite ladylike and charming!
displaying her could be as easy as a small easel!

Recently we purchased a TV for our bedroom that was smaller than the last one, so I began to search for a something that could serve as a stand to bring the TV higher in our cabinet...I found this awful dark box with a drawer and a hideous pull.  I WISH I'd remembered to take a photo of the before, but here is the after...I rather enjoy it's simplicity...and it serves it's purpose quite nicely!

FUN!

I've worked on the drawing for my Magnolia Silos I spoke about in my last post...this is a little closer to their actual shape...

"CREATION - A RAVEN" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA PAINTING OF A RAVEN © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

finished frame size apx 20"x20"
Gold manufactured frame
comes with wire and ready to hang

This is my latest re-work painting.  I didn't change much, but I decided to change the color of the beak to gold instead of silver, and I reworked the rock a bit. To me it made a WORLD of difference with such a small change!

The Raven is filled with symbolism from all cultures.  Most think the symbolism revolves around death and the occult.  This is absolutely NOT true.  In fact, the symbolism involves words and meanings like wisdom, learning and even the Native Americans believed the raven held creation in it's "feathers".  Although I do not believe the raven created the world, I love the positive spin this bird holds rather than the spooky undertones he has a bad reputation for!

"SWEET PEA" 89/101 OF 101 PET PORTRAITS IN 101 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Sweet Pea"
6"x6" oil on slightly textured panel
$75
ON HOLD
"Sweet Pea" is a special hen as she hangs out with cats!  She does NOT discriminate!  She runs to meet Mary Logsdon's car when she arrives home and lays excellent eggs too!  She is even lovey lap baby!  The body of Sweet Pea has more purple than blue, but the photographs just don't grab that purple...in any case, I promise the purple looks great.  What you want to look at in a ptg is the values; how light and dark something is...that is the real test!  Again, this hen was a fauvist girl from the get go...there didn't have to be much of a stretch to paint her in fauvist colors!  Sweet Pea comes ready to frame or she can sit on an easel.

Sweet Pea is on hold with her sister; Big Bird, for Mary as she is traveling abroad and has no opportunity to see them just yet...so, as promised, I'm giving her that opportunity.

I want to mention a little about my process in these portraits before the project is finished.  I always start with the eyes.  It makes it so much easier to paint the rest when the eyes are finished.  I will mark the outside edges in areas so I can stay accurate, but it is the eyes, and then usually the nose...after that it just paints itself!

Here is little Sweet Pea in her display options.

The color is pretty accurate in background in this...but the purples just don't show...sigh!  Take my word for it...she looks good in purple!
I found this easel at Hobby Lobby
This Gold Leaf Floater frame was purchased through pictureframes.com in their floater frame section.

This is my favorite option; the easel is a close second!

SOLD: A WREN TRIO...TOMORROW 100 PET PORTRAITS IN 100 DAYS LAUNCHES!!

Wren Trio
sold to collector who asked...:)
The other day I got a message from a collector on ETSY asking if I had three wrens of which she'd seen two...I didn't, but I had another photo I was planning to paint, so I told her I'd do a third one (the one in the middle) and if she liked them...VOILA'!  SO, I painted the third.  She also mentioned that she'd like to frame them not too expensively...and so I mentioned how I put them on 5x5" matts and it just so happened that I had a set of gold frames...I quoted her a VERY REASONABLE price to mount and frame them...and she loved the idea!
SO, because a collector asked, and BECAUSE I had what she needed and was able to paint what she wanted (well, I haven't heard back from 5 minutes ago, but I think she likes them all)  I was able to make a collector happy and YAY!  I've said it before...we have a no for sure if we don't ask!  If I don't feel I can do a thing I'll be honest...but if I do...I will! It's a win win!

OK...so TOMORROW I will be launching my 100 Pets in 100 Days painting project!  I am SO excited and happy to be able to have gotten over 1/4 the number of photos I need to get this project done!  SO, the obvious is I have a need for more photos!  Just send them to my e-mail at art4life44@hotmail.com.  I am including the info needed for this project below so you can know what I'm needing!  Join me tomorrow to see the first pet portrait!

I am  announcing a new painting project that has been on my mind for awhile now.  In order to loosen up and spark my creative expression I want to do 100 Pet Portraits in 100 days!  These portraits will be a little different in that I will be painting them with a fauvist influence (taken from the french word fauve which means "wild beasts") .  Fauvism is a movement that was begun by Henri Matisse and Andre Derain as a transition from the impressionist movement. It was short lived between 1900-1910. It was characterized by bold brush strokes and exaggerated or bright out of the tube color.  That is my goal for my 100 pet portraits...to paint them in bright, exaggerated color using more bold brush strokes.  The example above describes what I am talking about meaning bold brush strokes and bright/exaggerated color.  Now, I will translate this into pets!  I love painting animals, so this should be a great project for me!

HERE'S WHERE YOU COME IN IF YOU WANT! :  My goal is to paint a pet portrait a day for 100 days. I will be loosely using the fauvist style as a guideline.  The only thing I can guarantee that will be true to color is the eye color...after that I will do my best to move into exaggerated color for the rest.  FUN DOINS FOLKS!  IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE you can send me through my e-mail or in the mail a head shot of your pet.  I will let you know very honestly if the photo is clear enough for me to see the detail I need to paint your pet.  By sending me a photo, you are giving me permission to paint the portrait and publish the completed painting along with the photo, on my blog, on my website, on Daily Paintworks and any other public forum I have.
E-MAIL ADDRESS: art4life44@hotmail.com (if for some reason the method you choose to send it doesn't open in my application, I may ask you to send it using a simpler method)
PHYSICAL ADDRESS: 6345 Northway Dr., Morrison, CO  80465

SEND ME THE PHOTO WITH YOUR PET'S NAME! (add your name as mommy or daddy of the pet if you wish, and let me know if you want to be identified as the proud owner/parent of your little pet!!

Each pet portrait will be painted on a 6"x6" panel(slightly textured), in oil, and will be available for sale for $75 + $6 shipping and handling.  That's $81 total to your door if you should want to purchase your pet portrait.  YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY NOT OBLIGATED TO PURCHASE THE PAINTING OF YOUR PET. You will be able to purchase the painting if you choose, using a pay pal button that will be either on my blog, or through my website. I AM NOT SET UP FOR INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING AT THIS TIME, so this particular project will be limited to the US...sorry international folks!  THE PAINTINGS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR SALE AS SOON AS THEY ARE DRY...USUALLY A WEEK OR SO.

PRIVACY CONSIDERATIONS: I will NOT reveal anything but your pet's name.  (unless you give me permission to add your name as his/her owner and want me to include a link to your blog or website). Each pet portrait will be given a number out of 100.  EXAMPLE:  the first portrait, "BERNARD, 1/100, the second "KITTY", 2/100 and so forth.  Your photo will not be returned.

PHOTO REQUIREMENTS: The photo you send for consideration is for a head shot only.  Meaning I will not be painting the full body, so you should consider how just the head and partial "shoulders" will fit into a square format.  The best portraits for consideration should be clear and not fuzzy or dark.  It is awesome to have some sunlight to the left or right, but with pets that is rarely possible, so not a requirement, just a thought.  No group photos with your pet in the pic...that will be too hard to work with...I just need your little loved one in the photo!  Also, I need you to send me the eye color as it is not always clear in the best of photos.  THAT will be the ONLY part of your pet that I will make true to color for sure.  Straight on photos are great, but sometimes, as with cats...a side view or 3/4 view is fun too... I AM NOT JUST LIMITING THIS TO CATS AND DOGS...IF I CAN SEE YOUR PET CLEARLY IN A PHOTO AND I CAN MAKE A GOOD SQUARE FORMAT I WILL CONSIDER ANY PET...(snakes not so much folks...kind of scary...but NOT impossible...lol)  Send me the photo and I'll tell you honestly if it will work for this project!  FUN! PS...if you should want to add props...like hats, glasses, etc in your photo for consideration for this project that is fine with me...I'll laugh through the process! :)

WHEN THIS BEGINS: I would love you to send your photos ASAP as I will be beginning this project on February 1, 2015!  I will let you know if your photo will work for this project.  I appreciate your participation in this fun painterly endeavor!

MY INSPIRATION FOR THIS WAS MY GOOD FRIEND AND A FANTASTIC ARTIST CAROL NELSON who did this a few years ago for people portraits...THANKS CAROL!!

HAPPY CREATING!

"GOOSE NECK" ORIGINAL OIL ON TEXTURED PANEL © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Goose Neck"
6"x4" oil on textured panel
ON HOLD for Stanton Art Gallery

Another painting for my show in Jan at the Stanton Gallery in Littleton, Co.  I think I've learned a lesson for the future.  Although I am happy to be in a show, doing artwork right before Christmas that I don't put in my own ETSY shop is a little frustrating! However I'm sure it will all work out in the end...what does not sell will go in the shop right after the show is over in February.  Lessons are awesome!  That's how we end up with a life that we want!

I, however, have done a couple more ostrich paintings...one for sure in my ETSY shop!  Stay tuned!

"I SEE YOU" AN OSTRICH WITH ATTITUDE © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"I See You" an Ostrich with Attitude
4x4" on a 1/2" thick textured panel
comes with her own easel
AVAILABLE AT LUNA'S MANDALA
I've been working really hard of late, trying to get work finished for my gallery in Conifer; Luna's Mandala, as well as ETSY (I think this poor shop has suffered most), and the art show I'm in at the Stanton Gallery in Littleton, Co starting Jan. 6.  It's been a juggling act for sure I admit!  "I See You" is an ostrich I painted exclusively for my gallery in Conifer...but I've also painted one for ETSY...see it tomorrow!  I DO LOVE painting these quirky birds...they all make me laugh!

I've also been trying to decorate for Christmas around here...I got our little Charlie Brown tree, as my husband calls it...all decked out...and of course I always put my ornaments of my kiddos on the tree!
So, pause for a bit of Christmas cheer!!
HO HO HO!!
I finished framing one of my 5x5" paintings..."Raven Pose"...I DO enjoy making these frames.  This one can also be found at Luna's Mandala.
