This little girl is only available through Luna's Mandala; my gallery in Conifer.  The new thing this year is for work I create specifically FOR THE GALLERY, I will only have available through the gallery.  It became quite the funny life when I would put something at Luna's and in ETSY and it would sell through ETSY, so I would trek back up the mountain to get it.  My friend and gallery owner was always so very gracious, but it never seemed right, so this is easier and nicer for all!

This was a requested painting by Luna, as apparently, hummingbirds are a big thing up here...so, I obliged.  I enjoy painting something I've not painted before...and here she is!

Of course, I try to make everyone happy, so if anyone just loved her, I could paint her again.  Keep in mind there is NO PAINTING IN MY WORLD THAT IS EXACTLY THE SAME, but I can get pretty close!  All one has to do is ask!

Wren is a cute little momma bird that has been posing for me of late. Always busy about life, but had time to say hello! She is perfect as is, to set on a small easel or framed in a 4x4" frame (remember framing takes 1/2" on all sides). OR, for just .50 more I can mount her on either a black or off white 5x5" backer board so you can frame her in your 5x5" frame so all her sides can show!  Sunday was a busy day here on the mountain.  I was able to meet my 2nd grandson ETHAN for the very first time!  He is 8 months old, and we made all we could out of the hour or so I got to see him!  He's a happy, smiley little sweetheart...and this nana played and played with him!  They live so far away, but I am grateful for the time!

Yep, we had to have a family pic as well!!

AND NOW!!  I am also thrilled and excited beyond that my nearly 3 year old PAXTON and his wonderful mommy and daddy will be coming to visit tomorrow!!  We are going to have a ball!  Two days of bliss!!  SO, after tomorrow's post I will be taking a few days off from painting so I can PLAY!

"Creation" a Raven

I specifically painted this raven for my gallery in Conifer, CO.  Cynthia is the owner of

this awesome gallery/shop and is ALWAYS so patient with me near SUMMER ART MARKET time; letting me take everything out of the shop for this event.  That doesn't always happen...so, as the stock I had in her gallery dwindled markedly, I painted this for the shop to replace a large piece I took out.  IF you are interested in this, please visit Luna's Mandala in Conifer, or contact me at art4life44@hotmail.com.  We can work something out!

As I wanted this piece to be rather symbolic, I added the imagery of the spiral life symbol and one of the words associated with the raven; this in the native American world is creation.  They believe that the raven is behind the creation of all things.  Although I do not believe that; God did the creatin in my book...I DO find lore from other cultures fascinating...so, if you look carefully in the photo you can see the addition of the word "creation" in the painting.  I've added some of my papers as well...and let this guy live this way!

I am tickled pink that my little nearly 3 year old grandson Paxton has taken to art...I love the look of pure joy on his precious face!

"Wide Eyes" an Owl

I'm not sure one can be an owl without having wide eyes, but this little guy just kept looking at me with his little wide eyes, thus his name! "Wide Eyes" is painted in oil on a textured 3/4" DEEP CRADLED PANEL. The sides are stained a wonderful brown that compliments. The unique depth allows for a few choices. Wide Eyes can hang as is, he can be framed; remember though that framing takes about 1/2" on each side unless you put him in a floater frame, he can also sit on a shelf; even on top of another painting as is shown in the example! Lots of choices for display! "Wide Eyes" will be ready to ship on February 1, 2014 when he is dry.

Yes, another ostrich!  I just can't seem to get bored with them...So, "Lips" is the newest addition.  When you click to my ETSY shop you will notice that I have added a couple new things.  FIRST a second matt color choice.  It's been over a year since I re-opened my ETSY shop, I'm selling them about as fast as I can paint them...so, I've added two options...for .50 each you can choose either a black backer board or an off white...and I'm showing two options for framing so you can really see the potential! Yes, the sides are still black...

 

as written in my ETSY shop:  Thinking she will be much prettier Lips as added a bit of color to those lips of hers...just hoping you will want to take her home! The Frames are just a suggestion. The black you can find at Michaels, and the off white; they call white can be found here on ETSY at Rustic and Refined Design. The backer boards are 5"x5" allowing all the sides of Lips to show. Lips has black painted sides so you can set her on an easel, frame her in a 4x4" (remember 1/4" is taken up on all sides), or order the backer and put her in a 5x5" frame as suggested! "Lips" will be dry and ready to ship on or about November 23, 2013!

"Dimples" has quite a sunny personality; although you may not see it at first.  Her dimples imply the happy girl underneath all that bravado!  But, regardless, look at those beautiful eyes she has!  Dimples is painted on a textured cradled panel that has black painted sides.  She is perfect to hang as is in that spot where you can see her and smile, or sit on a shelf or an easel.  She can even be framed!  "Dimples" is traveling to my gallery in Conifer, but if you don't live near enough to visit Luna's Mandala in person, just let me know and I'll gather her up and ship her to you!

 

My grandson, Paxton and his parents went to the Pumpkin Patch over the weekend...I'm grateful to my lovely daughter, who is an incredible photographer and shares all the photos...It helps so much to be able to see events in this way when I cannot be there!  I think Paxton found a pumpkin!

NOW, I have a cautionary tale to tell so that you can be armed in case you ever encounter this...As you have probably read, I recently added a third gallery.  This one was in Wheat Ridge, CO.  Things seemed to be going fine; I'd already sold a piece in fact...AND THEN, one day I sold a painting independently through my website, so I contacted the owner and asked if I could come get it and replace it with another.  All was fine, I went to pick it up and noticed that some paintings seemed to be a higher price than I had set, but wasn't positive.  I picked up the sold painting, and grabbed the card that was on the wall with it to clean off the space.  On the way home I glanced at the card and noticed the price was marked quite a bit higher than the sales price listed on the back of the painting and on my website!  This was upsetting!  I had the distinct impression that they were trying to get MORE money than the commission we'd set in the contract!  I contacted them and told them this was NOT ACCEPTABLE and I would be by in the morning to take my work out.  The REASON I acted so quickly is that I was never made aware of their price gouging (the way I see it), I felt they were taking advantage, it wasn't ethical practice; people would see the different prices and it would make me look dishonest, and they had destroyed trust!  That last one is huge...if you can't trust the gallery in which you entrust your work, there IS NO BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP that will work anymore!  I encourage those of you who are in a gallery to check in from time to time...keep that business relationship healthy...they need to hear from you and you need to check in with them! 

 

I am very happy with my decision...my reputation remains in tact, my work is back with me and available to do with what I please, and my collectors will know they have an honest person to work with!! (I guess that's just restating point one, but it is important!)

My gallery in Conifer has been asking for Raven paintings...small ones for the holidays.  Apparently there are a lot of Raven fans in the area...so "The Eye of the Raven" is the first in a series.

 

A little powerhouse painting of a Raven.  It's 4"x4" size allows him to fit just about anywhere.  He can hang, or, because of his depth of 1.5" he can sit on a shelf!  The raven is symbolism of the mind, thought and wisdom according to Norse legend, so with this guys "eye" on you, it can only be a good thing!!  This painting is available through Luna's Mandala.  If you are interested and out of state, contact me and I will bring him home to send to you!!

Today is my most wonderful son; Jonathan's Birthday!  I find days like these I miss him extra much!  He is my first born, and my only son, and I love him like crazy!!  Most of us have a picture of our children that pop up when we think of them...this one is my "pop up" memory.  His was about 1 1/2 and was going to climb a mountain by himself...I remember he even told me so right before I shot this photo!

Well, now he is 33 years old and I am just as crazy about him as I was back then..no...MORE!  He has been immortalized in paint by my friend Carol Nelson,

and he is so talented in so many ways as well, including the skateboard!!  I love you Jonathan...Have a HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!  Always and Forever, MOM

 

I'm also celebrating fall today!  Here are a few shots from our area!!  The big ole rock attracts many climbers...and my red barn meadow is always pretty...The scrub oak have really been colorful this year! ENJOY!

Just look at that face; those eyes...just staring! This crow is quite aware of you, now you can take him home to watch over that perfect spot! "I See You" is painted in oil on slightly textured panel with black sides. You can frame him as is (keeping in mind the sides will be taken up by about 1/8" - 1/4" with the frame) OR you can have him mounted on the black backer board you see in the frame suggestion so he can be framed in a 5"x5" frame so all his sides show! (The backer board is no extra charge, you just need to request it when you purchase). The 5"x5" frame is not included, but can be found at Michaels. I'm loving the new color I found called Light Graphite by Masters Touch that I used in the background and throughout as accent.  Yes, I could have mixed it, but this was fun to play!!

I'm loving the sunrises this time of year...I enjoy all the posts on facebook of the sunsets, and this looks like them, only...well, yep, sunRISE! FUN!

 

Another funny little item is my SUNFLOWER WATCH here on the mountain.  It is extremely rare to have a flower survive the deer and other wildlife, so for the past few weeks I've been watching over ONE LONE SUNFLOWER that looked like it might escape the lunch menu of our mountain animals...AND, YES, this ONE SUNFLOWER made it...and, to ensure it stayed that way, I plucked it and brought it inside...I'm SO excited to present our Mountain Sunflower!!
