After the workshop I decided to add birds to this piece instead of my signature trees. It just felt right, and being the artist I got to choose! Isn't life grand! Such a large name for such a small work, but it fits! Thanks Joan for naming it! I took this piece to a critique night for one of the art guilds I'm a member of; Ken Caryl Art Guild and we discussed several ways to finish this little, but powerful painting. I took their advice and added a couple crows in the background in flight...as if they were making their passage to their destination.
The crow is often thought of as a sign of impending death or vampires...but did you know that the Native Americans believe the crow is a symbol for keeping the law. I found this interesting, and it fits my life...Little Saundra always doing what is right...following the laws of the land in respect for those who came before who made them for our good as a country.
The spirals you see here have a great balance of meaning for this painting. They are often seen as symbols for Balance, Progress, Direction,
Initiation, Centering, Expanding, Awareness, Connection, Journeying,
Development. WOW...a whole lot of meaning for one little painting...but it works!
I've added my papers and stamping in the background in the abstract as I do for the viewer to interject meaning or visual as they see fit. I was fascinated to hear from my fellow artists the other night...some saw a village at the bottom, one saw a couch in front of a window. I LOVE IT!
My only question left to answer is how to treat the sides. I could stain them...I could paint them...that will be the final piece to this painting. As soon as that decision is made it goes into the website! HOWEVER...a unique opportunity for anyone who is struck with this painting...to tell me how you want it finished if you decided to purchase it right here and now!! WOO HOO!
I have a brown stain, an Oak colored stain...any paint color you could imagine...even a green stain...FUN!
HAPPY CREATING!

For some reason, I am thinking you should continue the painting down the sides, my friend. I really like the Native American connotations...Gorgeous work!
Interesting my blogger friend...I had another fellow artist say the same thing...food for thought...again! :)
