"I SEE YOU" - A CROW ORIGINAL ETSY MINI © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

4x4" oil on panel
SOLD - Thanks Carol!

Just look at that face; those eyes...just staring! This crow is quite aware of you, now you can take him home to watch over that perfect spot! "I See You" is painted in oil on slightly textured panel with black sides. You can frame him as is (keeping in mind the sides will be taken up by about 1/8" - 1/4" with the frame) OR you can have him mounted on the black backer board you see in the frame suggestion so he can be framed in a 5"x5" frame so all his sides show! (The backer board is no extra charge, you just need to request it when you purchase). The 5"x5" frame is not included, but can be found at Michaels. I'm loving the new color I found called Light Graphite by Masters Touch that I used in the background and throughout as accent.  Yes, I could have mixed it, but this was fun to play!!
"I See You" will be ready to ship on September 13, 2013 when he should be dry!!

I'm loving the sunrises this time of year...I enjoy all the posts on facebook of the sunsets, and this looks like them, only...well, yep, sunRISE! FUN!

Another funny little item is my SUNFLOWER WATCH here on the mountain.  It is extremely rare to have a flower survive the deer and other wildlife, so for the past few weeks I've been watching over ONE LONE SUNFLOWER that looked like it might escape the lunch menu of our mountain animals...AND, YES, this ONE SUNFLOWER made it...and, to ensure it stayed that way, I plucked it and brought it inside...I'm SO excited to present our Mountain Sunflower!!

HAPPY CREATING!

"I DREAMED OF A CROW" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA ON CANVAS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

12"x12" mixed media on canvas
$150 + $12 shipping in the US
This crow has found a private spot to have a berry snack.  The textured, scraped background gives this piece a dream like quality. Painted on a 3/4" stretched canvas it is ready to hang or frame.

WOW, this summer has been a busy one!  I am literally at times running from one project to another...I don't mind...I find it keeps the creative juices flowing!

I am also painting several for my galleries simultaneously as well as working on a painting for my own house!  I am getting ready to take a lot of work to three galleries, which leaves my own home a bit bare...so, I long for a peaceful painting for our walls.  This white barn (sitting at the bottom of our mountain neighborhood) will sit atop a meadow.  My goal is simplicity...so stay tuned!

My daughter's mother-in-law's sister-in-law (what would that make her to me?? LOL) took this funny photo of their dog...I'm dying to paint a little ETSY of him...FUNNY!!
and...
I gave myself permission to HATE my bedroom curtains...TOO CIRCUSY for me...so I went neutral this time so I could ADD pops of color!  MUCH BETTER!!  There is a leaf pattern in there too; which just so happens to match the leaves on my
bedspread!!  YIPPEE!!

and...
The FIND of the summer...we were coming home from A Taste of Colorado and our neighbors; who are moving had out front a dresser PERFECT for my new guest room for FREE!!  I've already prepped it for painting! FUN DOINS!!  Hubby thought I was crazy, but I ignored him this time!! :)

and...

While traveling to Louisville I captured this bit of mountain from my moving car...no worries, I didn't take my eyes of the road!!
Busy, happy days in this artist's world!!  I hope you are finding some of the same!!

"CROW CIRCLES" ORIGINAL MINI OIL ON 4"X4" GALLERY WRAP CANVAS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Crow Circles"
oil on 4"x4" gallery wrap canvas
AVAILABLE for now on my WEBSITE

Another crow offering for my gallery in Conifer, unless he sells here in the next week! HA.  There just seems to be something about crows...

Crow Circles is a tiny bit of a take on crop circles. I like to use a sense of humor whenever I can with my work. Crows; those black birds that are often thought of in conjunction to dark things are actually full of color if you look at them in the light...I've used a bit of color on this guy..purples and blues. He's ready to ship on or about April 6, 2013 when he is fully dry. The nice 1.5" depth allows for sitting on a shelf, but his wire also allows for hanging in that perfect spot!

 HAPPY CREATING.

On a bit of a sad note...we in the art world here in Colorado are mourning the loss of KATHY BERLS; a local artist and friend who served the art community for over 25 years as a co-founder of Lakewood Arts Council, a manager of the long running, and still going strong South Union Gallery and co-op.  Kathy's oils are a beautiful example of light and shadow with her flowers and still life work.  I own her work as do many here and around the country.  Kathy was a friend and mentor that helped me immeasurably in my work when I first arrived.  She passed away nearly a week ago after a short and very hard fight with cancer. She will be sorely missed!

"SACRED JOURNEY OF THE CROW" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA ON STRETCHED CANVAS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Sacred Journey of the Crow"
4" x 5" oil over mixed media background
gallery wrap stretched canvas with lots o texture!!
$47 + $7 shipping in the US

I have been so excited about crows lately...painting them that is!  We have had an influx of them of late...don't know why, but I'm glad. I also go up the mountain to our local grocery and for some reason they love it up there...so there has been ample opportunity to get crow photos! YEA!

I used to be spooked by crows...I suppose it's all the horror stories I see...in these movies and in recent cultural lore crows have often been seen as a symbol of death and omens of bad things to come, BUT DID YOU KNOW that actually crows have been seen as sacred. Even in the bible crows have been seen as birds that brought bread, in many Indian cultures they are seen as supreme beings, they are seen as messengers.  Some really POSITIVE meanings for the crow.

I've coupled this crow with a spiral; seems I've done that a good bit of late.  As I've also said before the symbolism of the spiral is a symbol of things like Balance, Progress, Direction, Initiation, Centering, Expanding, Awareness, Connection, Journeying, Development. THUS you can see how I came to the name.

For this little painting I chose to let the very textured background serve as the backdrop of the very purply dark bird who has landed for a moment of reflection before continuing on his journey; which I choose to be of enlightenment!  Don't we all need a bit of enlightenment from time to time!!

On the 24th of November I will be participating in a Christmas shopping event up in Conifer where I will bring this little guy for you to see in person if you like!!  More details will be oming soon!!

HAPPY CREATING!!

"PEAR"LY" FORMAL" ORIGINAL OIL MINI ON PANEL © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

4"x4" oil on panel
$25 + $2 shipping in US
Available in my ETSY shop

This is actually a re-paint of one I didn't even post.  It began in the traditional way with the dark background as with some other etsy fruit paintings, but the pear looked kind of shriveled...NOT an apetizing thing to have on your walls, SO, I re-worked him, sat him up all straight and tall like a proud little pear...and then couldn't resist adding a bit of stamp to blend color from pear to background, background to pear...I like it MUCH better now...and this little pear has had SO much attention he is even blushing!
As has been my pattern...he is painted black on the sides and can be mounted at no extra charge on a black backer board to frame him in a 5"x5" frame...either way...he is pear"ly" ready for you!!

AND...I finally settled on a stain color for "Subtle Passage of Crows"...I went with an English Oak; rapidly becoming my favorite...it is a nice contrast with the star of the show!

I say back to the easel for ME!

HAPPY CREATING!!

"RUFFLED FEATHERS" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA ON 4X4" PANEL © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Ruffled Feathers"
4"x4" mixed media on panel
SOLD in my ETSY shop!

I had to paint another crow as a companion to "Crow" and this guy was it.  I know the two backgrounds are not photographed equally...the first one was a little bright in the photo, but they were painted side by side, so they do go together nicely.  Or, they stand alone just fine also!  As I've been doing, I added black to the sides so it can sit on an easel alone, or I have also added (at no extra cost) a black acid free/lightfast backer board that is 5x5" so, when mounted the painting "floats" free of edges being cut off.

HAPPY CREATING!!

"CROW" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA 4X4" MINI ON PANEL OF CROW © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Crow"
4"x4" mixed media mini on panel
$25 plus $2 shipping in US
available in my ETSY store

This is a little back to my love of mixed media with this little painting...I enjoyed branching out to add a little more to my ETSY store...As the others are, his sides are painted black...the background is acrylic and paper and the crow and branch is oil.  I absoluely LOVE mixing my media!

As I stated in my piece "Subtle Passage of Crows" the Native Americans look upon the crow as a symbol for keeping the law. While the spiral you can see in the background is a symbol for balance, progress, direction, development. Put the two together and it makes a strong statement for strength!

As I do with my other Etsy paintings I offer "Crow" with a black backer board for no extra charge...this is great for wanting to frame him with all the edges showing...the full monty I guess you'd call it...:) I've painted a companion piece to "Crow" that I will post tomorrow...so, stay tuned!

I'm in the mood for getting my sander out and grinding down some surfaces...Two are the abstracts I started in the workshop, and one is a finished painting that has been grating on me of late...check back to see what happens...good or...well, not so good; which I call "lesson learned"...

HAPPY CREATING!

"SUBTLE PASSAGE OF CROWS" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA ON CRADLED PANEL © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Subtle Passage of Crows"
12" x 3" mixed media on cradled panel
$72 plus $10 shipping in the US

After the workshop I decided to add birds to this piece instead of my signature trees.  It just felt right, and being the artist I got to choose! Isn't life grand! Such a large name for such a small work, but it fits! Thanks Joan for naming it!  I took this piece to a critique night for one of the art guilds I'm a member of; Ken Caryl Art Guild and we discussed several ways to finish this little, but powerful painting.  I took their advice and added a couple crows in the background in flight...as if they were making their passage to their destination.

The crow is often thought of as a sign of impending death or vampires...but did you know that the Native Americans believe the crow is a symbol for keeping the law. I found this interesting, and it fits my life...Little Saundra always doing what is right...following the laws of the land in respect for those who came before who made them for our good as a country.

The spirals you see here have a great balance of meaning for this painting.  They are often seen as symbols for Balance, Progress, Direction, Initiation, Centering, Expanding, Awareness, Connection, Journeying, Development. WOW...a whole lot of meaning for one little painting...but it works!

I've added my papers and stamping in the background in the abstract as I do for the viewer to interject meaning or visual as they see fit.  I was fascinated to hear from my fellow artists the other night...some saw a village at the bottom, one saw a couch in front of a window.  I LOVE IT!

My only question left to answer is how to treat the sides.  I could stain them...I could paint them...that will be the final piece to this painting.  As soon as that decision is made it goes into the website!  HOWEVER...a unique opportunity for anyone who is struck with this painting...to tell me how you want it finished if you decided to purchase it right here and now!! WOO HOO!

I have a brown stain, an Oak colored stain...any paint color you could imagine...even a green stain...FUN!

HAPPY CREATING!
