Another larger piece that reflects my growth in the direction of color and a bit more abstract.  I'm really enjoying working in this new way.  The background is acrylic in base with a bit of the honeycomb pattern subtly added.  The rest is oil.  Note how you can see a bit of paper and pattern reflected in the rocks...a hail to my earlier work.  Most of this painting was created with palette knife.  FUN DOINS!

This abstracted landscape is purely from my heart. I have yet to actually see this in life, though I would never discount that it exists. "Blue Rock Cliffs" is inspired by my many walks up in the Colorado mountains where I see boulder fields and cliffs. For the adventurous soul that dreams of colors and trees in colors that sing. You can purchase this painting as is and set it on a small easel, or you can frame it in your favorite 4x4" frame (keep in mind that 1/2" is taken on the sides when framing), for .50 more I can mount it on either a black or off white 5x5" backer board so you can frame it in a 5x5" frame. NOTE: I carry some recycled frames in my ETSY shop, so take a look.

I continue to create my fun canvas baskets.  Aspen Roots was actually a gift for my hairdresser and friend who recently had her 1 year anniversary as owner of, ASPEN ROOTS in Conifer!

 I've added larger sizes to my canvas baskets as well..."Paisley" is approximately 13" wide by 10 1/2" tall. This can be found at my gallery in Conifer; Luna's Mandala.

Mt. Wilson in Colorado is one of our hardest of the 14ers to climb.  Mt. Wilson is set about 10 miles from Telluride in the San Miguel Mountains.  I call these "long skinny" paintings my "layer" paintings as they are not part of a specific scene, but start with the subject matter at top and move down with different bits and pieces of things that are in and around the area.  These "long skinnies" are fun to weave things in as I move down the panel, imagining the feelings of standing within the scene and painting to highlight the joy of the moment!  "The Red Barn" is painted on MDF panel with cradled sides stained to compliment.  I use a water based stain on my cradles so if anyone would rather paint their sides it is an easy application!

I was asked to present a demo for another local art guild on my paper casting process.  It was a great opportunity to experiment with my casts a little more to see what else can be done with them...I've come up with a couple new things...stay tuned to the end result of those!  My goal was to incorporate the casts in fine art as well as crafts.  Remember that experimenting gives an artist great opportunity for growth! If you are in town and want to see the process it will be October 10 at 7 p.m. at the Rox Bar and Grille upstairs.  The Rox is just east of C-470 on Ken Caryl!
I created a collage of some of the work I've already done with my casts.  Happy memories!

If this painting looks familiar, well, that is because it is merely a tweaked (again) version of the previously known and tweaked "Mt. Evans Layers"...yes...it IS true that if a painting hangs around very long it will be tweaked most likely! So, as it was hanging in my home studio awaiting the sale of  another large painting I kept looking at it...and thus the tweaking...so...here is the original (well, once tweaked version) You can see there is not MUCH difference, except for the elephant in the room...the darker version of the mountain...it just didn't do it for me...so, I greyed it down a bit...tweaked it a bit and NOW it's finished version.  I feel it works better with the whole piece...  I also added a bit here and there...some highlights on the rocks...and a small stand of aspen in the top right...

 

 

 

 

SO, it is on it's way to Creations Art and Gifts in Louisville to live for a bit.  WHEW...maybe I can stop tweaking this one for awhile! HA!  Now it's back to work on various Christmas gifts (of which I will show you when I'm finished), and commissions!  HAPPY CREATING!!

This is what I'm calling a Shabby Chic painting. I attached canvas to the gallery wrap canvas...I added brads here and there...and then painted right on top...In this work I still work with my subject matter but work accordingly. I encourage you to enlarge this piece so you can see the areas where I'm calling "shabby" or check out the detail photos below...just a new way to play! This work is comprised of bits and pieces of Colorado landscape scenery all put together in one cohesive piece! This mixed media piece has acrylic, modeling paste for added texture, oil (for most of the bottom of the painting), brads, and acid free paper. FOR THE HOLIDAYS I'M PUTTING THIS IN MY STUDIO SALE...SO FOR THIS PERIOD OF TIME IT WILL BE AT A GREATLY REDUCED PRICE!!

 You have to look hard within the rocks to see the added canvas pieces, frayed around...

 NOTE: the FUN texture and the added canvas with little brads at the corners...

 The sides are painted around but kept soft

 just a tad of detail on the sides...in keeping with the shabby chic feel

Some have asked why I am putting pieces up at such reduced prices. My answer is three fold...Number ONE, I want to be respectful of those, like me who have been hit with the economy and give gift choices that are affordable!  AND TWO, I am becoming dismayed at how our world is sometimes making art that seems only the rich can afford...that BUGS ME...I LOVE the process of my art...I have FUN painting...but I never want to be too big for my britches...:)  and THIRD...well, I need to clear out my studio to make room for MORE PROCESS, MORE PAINTINGS...FUN, FUN, FUN!!

Poppies and Rocks

My last day with my parents and I'm still snooping! We are off to the airport in a few hours, so I wanted to share a series I did for my parents of poppies. They were completed during a span of a year if I remember correctly. "Poppy Duo" is acrylic on canvas, Next we have my version of collage on a board "Paper Poppies", third down is what I call "Crock Poppies" on stretched canvas and coming last is the "Poppy Trio", also on stretched canvas. Ha, it's 5 a.m.ish and I'm cracking myself up naming these. Gotta say "Crock Poppies" is making me laugh the hardest! Now I'm in the mood to do poppies when I get home...Yipee...Some of the photos have a bit of glare. That is due to the fact that these paintings were sealed. I usually photograph my work before it has that shiny coat on it. This photo for sharing is of some mountain rocks with what I call a trickle stream running down. Last year when my hubby (who I miss like crazy) and I went on a little mini vacationfor a couple of days. Our goal was to do it on one tank of gas, so we made the loop from home to the Royal Gorge and back. This picture was taken somewhere along that loop! The stream running down from them pooled at the bottom and we took our shoes off and played in the water. I remember the bottom was pure sand. It was AWESOME!

I can't wait to get home to start painting again. But, I have to admit I'm a bit sad to leave my parents...Oh the dilemas!! I have enjoyed seeing artwork from the ones who did it off of my photos...I think I will continue doing that from time to time. I highly recommend it. Something sort of exciting and, I don't know...heady about seeing your photo from someone else's view!
