"Aspen in Blue and Green" is a 6 x 12x 3/4" cradled canvas panel that I stained on the sides. It was inspired by a larger collage I did last summer as part of a workshop I taught. I find it quite exciting to paint a ground with various colors and then begin adding this paper or that. Some are papers I've collected and some I've made. The green is one I just love. It works well next to the ultramarine blue I added RIGHT OUT OF THE TUBE for extra depth; FUN!
There is something about standing in an aspen grove and looking 360 degrees and seeing nothing but these fascinating trees. I always feel so well protected and so very inspired. And I'm not sure, but I think the sound is muffled a bit...or at least I don't seem to hear much of anything else but those trees in an occasional breeze.
I've been think a lot about what excites me the most about the way I approach collage and I think it is that I get to mix paint and paper. I see an evolution, slow as it may be, of my approach to art. I love this journey! I hope you can be a little inspired today in whatever way you find exciting as your journey in your art continues!
This painting is available on my website.
