"America in Collage"

Well...here is my experiment number 1. The flag was fun to do. "America in Collage" is a 7x5" collage on clay board. It is available on my website. Just click on the title to take you there! Using collage, and some of my painterly effects I found this to be a good example for me. I COULD have just painted it. That would have been MUCH faster...but I might not have gotten such definition. You may not be able to see it but the depth the tiny extra bit of paper gave it helped I believe.

I taught today...took my Sunflower Quad challenge with me...got some done, but not enough to post. It is a busy school...and I'm back there tomorrow, but I'm thinking hard as I work this collage...mixing it with the painting parts as well...As I was working it I realized I like the loose look of my paintings, so I was considering how I could incorporate that into this collage. We shall see...

I got an e-mail from a friend of mine who was wondering if I am going to give up just painting all together...I don't think so! I love it...but if I play with things I might just make a recognizable situation with both...hmmm...part of my questioning process...

I'm a bit tired, so I'll talk about other questions at a later date...but, for now...I had fun, and am in process of answering my first question for myself.

YIPEE...we hit 75 followers. I will draw a name this evening and post the result tomorrow when I return from school!

Wow... I thought this was oil.... you're mastery with collage is awesome!

As for your quandary about narrowing down your subject matter, I think if you have a body of work similar in groups of 10-12 you'll be fine for any show venue.

You have an excellent point Sheila! Thanks for adding it to me thought process! And...thanks for the compliment! This one was fun...but...most of them are! HA

This came out so very beautifully Saundra! Collage and the painterly do so wonderfully well together! I think the paper did give it some depth and definition. You can just about see the seams from when a flag is sewn together! (That is a good thing.) I love the stars too. What a nice niche you have as your collage skills are just amazing and your painting too.

Saundra this is very nice, I really love the effect with the collage it really pops. Great Job! I think it is good to experiment with other options rather than just painting, there are so many different way that we can express ourselves
