"THE RED BARN" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA ON PANEL © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

48"x18" mixed media on cradled panel
$1,400
Available through Creations Fine Art in Louisville
If you are in the area, stop by the first Friday in October at Creations to see it in person!

Mt. Wilson in Colorado is one of our hardest of the 14ers to climb.  Mt. Wilson is set about 10 miles from Telluride in the San Miguel Mountains.  I call these "long skinny" paintings my "layer" paintings as they are not part of a specific scene, but start with the subject matter at top and move down with different bits and pieces of things that are in and around the area.  These "long skinnies" are fun to weave things in as I move down the panel, imagining the feelings of standing within the scene and painting to highlight the joy of the moment!  "The Red Barn" is painted on MDF panel with cradled sides stained to compliment.  I use a water based stain on my cradles so if anyone would rather paint their sides it is an easy application!

I was asked to present a demo for another local art guild on my paper casting process.  It was a great opportunity to experiment with my casts a little more to see what else can be done with them...I've come up with a couple new things...stay tuned to the end result of those!  My goal was to incorporate the casts in fine art as well as crafts.  Remember that experimenting gives an artist great opportunity for growth! If you are in town and want to see the process it will be October 10 at 7 p.m. at the Rox Bar and Grille upstairs.  The Rox is just east of C-470 on Ken Caryl!
I created a collage of some of the work I've already done with my casts.  Happy memories!

WORKING, WORKING!!!

This is a piece of a 48x18" mixed media painting I'm doing for Creations in Louisville.  I hope to have it finished by their grand opening next month!  Below are other bits and pieces that are all a part of the whole...SOON, SOON I will be posting the finished piece! YAY!

Keeping me from totally locking myself in my studio is my HUGE need to finish painting furniture for the house...hoping to get all painted and in the house before the snow flies!!  It's gotten quite chilly, so I'm thinking I'm gonna have to step it up!HA

This is a chest that sits across from our door...I had originally intended to paint the whole thing the fun turquoise, but got it on the drawer and wow was it strong...so, I used this wonderful yellow that goes with the base of my fun pineapple base table to offset it.  Remember, if you want a color, but it's too strong for a larger piece you can play around with complimenting it with another color...that little pop is enough...it pulls the turquoise that is in the painting out...and other bits a pieces I have here and there!
PS...I haven't figured out the knobs yet...I may just paint them the yellow color, or do something totally different...FUN!
The original top was just a flat piece of wood...SO, I went and got a bit of molding and added that to the front for just a little sumpin, sumpin...MORE FUN!

Remember my wonderful rescued mountain sunflower...the ONLY flower left on the mountain that the deer hadn't eaten?  WELL...it lived a good life like this...
and, then...well, it lived it's life and now it looks like this; WHICH I think is beautiful in it's own right!
This past weekend was our 7th anniversary.  WELL, our 7th being married...we dated for almost 18 years before that! LOL...SO, as we do every year we went out looking for something for the house we buy together...I'd had my eye on this vintage hinged door set that fits perfectly in the corner of our stairway...I have to say I LOVE it!!  I was so inspired, I'm going to do a painting to hang beside it! more FUN DOINS!!

SO, I am back to my busy, busy life in the studio and outer regions!

HAPPY CREATING!

"I SEE YOU" - A CROW ORIGINAL ETSY MINI © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

4x4" oil on panel
SOLD - Thanks Carol!

Just look at that face; those eyes...just staring! This crow is quite aware of you, now you can take him home to watch over that perfect spot! "I See You" is painted in oil on slightly textured panel with black sides. You can frame him as is (keeping in mind the sides will be taken up by about 1/8" - 1/4" with the frame) OR you can have him mounted on the black backer board you see in the frame suggestion so he can be framed in a 5"x5" frame so all his sides show! (The backer board is no extra charge, you just need to request it when you purchase). The 5"x5" frame is not included, but can be found at Michaels. I'm loving the new color I found called Light Graphite by Masters Touch that I used in the background and throughout as accent.  Yes, I could have mixed it, but this was fun to play!!
"I See You" will be ready to ship on September 13, 2013 when he should be dry!!

I'm loving the sunrises this time of year...I enjoy all the posts on facebook of the sunsets, and this looks like them, only...well, yep, sunRISE! FUN!

Another funny little item is my SUNFLOWER WATCH here on the mountain.  It is extremely rare to have a flower survive the deer and other wildlife, so for the past few weeks I've been watching over ONE LONE SUNFLOWER that looked like it might escape the lunch menu of our mountain animals...AND, YES, this ONE SUNFLOWER made it...and, to ensure it stayed that way, I plucked it and brought it inside...I'm SO excited to present our Mountain Sunflower!!
