STILL inspired by my friends at the fixer upper show; Chip and Joanna Gaines, knowing they have goats as their unofficial mascot...just had to paint this little sweet goat.  She made me laugh as I think their lips are much like humans...FUN!

"Sweet Pea"

"Sweet Pea" is a special hen as she hangs out with cats!  She does NOT discriminate!  She runs to meet Mary Logsdon's car when she arrives home and lays excellent eggs too!  She is even lovey lap baby!  The body of Sweet Pea has more purple than blue, but the photographs just don't grab that purple...in any case, I promise the purple looks great.  What you want to look at in a ptg is the values; how light and dark something is...that is the real test!  Again, this hen was a fauvist girl from the get go...there didn't have to be much of a stretch to paint her in fauvist colors!  Sweet Pea comes ready to frame or she can sit on an easel. 

Sweet Pea is on hold with her sister; Big Bird, for Mary as she is traveling abroad and has no opportunity to see them just yet...so, as promised, I'm giving her that opportunity.

I want to mention a little about my process in these portraits before the project is finished.  I always start with the eyes.  It makes it so much easier to paint the rest when the eyes are finished.  I will mark the outside edges in areas so I can stay accurate, but it is the eyes, and then usually the nose...after that it just paints itself!

 The color is pretty accurate in background in this...but the purples just don't show...sigh!  Take my word for it...she looks good in purple!

This was a fun couple of paintings for me.  Laura Alsman; the pet mom to Big Mamma was so sweet when I told her I wanted to use pinks to paint her baby.  At first it was going to just be the pink cow, but then I thought how cool it would be to paint Big Mamma like I would do in the fauvist fashion; with the darks being dark purples and blues...and THEN, in order to show how it is more important to get the VALUES correct than color.  Value is the light and dark in a painting.  SO, I worked REALLY HARD to keep the drawing as exactly the same as the first Big Mamma so you would not be distracted by a different drawing, and focus on how BIG MAMMA reads cow no matter her color.  It was a fun thing to do!!  Check them out side by side!

Big Mamma Pink has her frame choices as well.  I find that I go back and forth on which is my favorite.

I just HAD to do it...I just HAD to name one of my ETSY'S SPOT...seems appropriate for this bovine beauty!  Hair and all!! HA!

"Spot" - the Cow is a throw back to the days when cows were cows and men were men. OR, women were women if you please!  She comes with an optional heavy plastic frame; a style that seems to suit her just fine. Spot is perfect as is...in her 4"x5" shape and size. She can easily sit on an easel. OR, there is a frame option as shown...a cute vintage"esque" solid plastic frame. It can hang or sit on an easel as demonstrated! What else can be said about this little fun gem, but it's a piggy tail! Meant to attract the one who needs to find a smile in your artwork, this little baby is for you! "Piggy Tail" is painted in oil on a 4"x4" textured panel. This little guy can sit on an easel as is, or can be framed in a 4"x4" frame (keep in mind the frame takes 1/2" on each side), OR, for .50 more you can choose a 5"x5" off white or black backer board. This will allow you to frame your little piggy in a 5"x5" frame with all sides showing! "Cow's Eye View"

Ever wonder what a cow sees when he is walking about grazing? Yep...this is a good example! "Cow's Eye View" is painted in oil on textured panel. He is 4"x4" as is. He can sit on a small easel. For .50 more you can add either a 5"x5" off white backer board, or a 5"x5" black backer board so he can be framed with all sides showing as in the examples. Frames not included, but you can find the off white frame at RUSTIC AND REFINED DESIGN here on ETSY. The black frame suggestion can be found at your local Michael's store. Cow's Eye View will be available to ship on April 7, 2014 when he is totally dry!

Occasionally I will paint something as a request...This little piggy duo was a request from my husband.  and, so, here they are...

With all sincerity these piggies are giving you ALL of their "Pig" Attention! Just hanging out in the straw they are ready to belong to anyone who will find them cute and love them! Painted on a 4"x4" textured panel with black sides these piggies are ready to frame (remember all frames take about 1/2" from each side) or sit on an easel. OR, for just .50 more you can add a backer board in a 5"x5" size so you can frame them with all the sides showing! The black and off white frames are just a suggestion to show you how the backer boards work. "Cow Circles"

Not letting any grass grow under my feet...painted "Cow Circles" last night. He made me laugh...I am liking this laughing while painting thing! He is offered as the rest of my ETSY, so hop over to my shop if you like!

 

A very distinguished gentleman; this cow just posing for the camera. At least I think he's a gentleman! Painted in oil on stamped mdf 4"x4" panel is ready for sitting on a shelf or framing! Sides painted black...oops, I see I need to clean up that side, but no worries! Can DO!! The frame is a suggestion and is not included in purchase price. However, I find these at Michael's. IF you wish I can include at no extra charge a mounting on a 5"x5" black backer board so he can be frame as shown in the suggestion without taking anything from the sides! Just ask for the backer board mounting when you order! "Cow Circles" will be ready to ship on or about April 10, 2013 when he is dry!
