"KIKI" 99/101 OF 101 PET PORTRAITS IN 101 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

SOLD to her pet mom; Bonnie.  Thank you Bonnie!!
KiKi is a sweetie pie who actually has more purply blues than just the blue she looks like she has.  AGAIN, I cannot seem to get my purple hues to show up...but, her darks look great in blue or purple!  A fauvist interpretation with these fun colors instead of black.  Kiki has wonderful turquoise/cerulean blues for the highlights I saw in her coat! I enjoyed the strong contrast between her dark coat and those beautiful green eyes!  I also have become enamored with stamping into some of these backgrounds...FUN! Kiki's Pet mom is Bonnie Wells.  Kiki comes ready to frame or sit on an easel as shown.

This easel I found at Hobby Lobby.

All these floater frames were purchased through pictureframes.com.  I think they can do better on shipping costs, but these frames were reasonable at $26.40.  Every time I purchased a frame I would comment that they need to improve on their shipping costs...who knows maybe one day they will! lol

"SWEET PEA" 89/101 OF 101 PET PORTRAITS IN 101 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Sweet Pea"
6"x6" oil on slightly textured panel
$75
ON HOLD
"Sweet Pea" is a special hen as she hangs out with cats!  She does NOT discriminate!  She runs to meet Mary Logsdon's car when she arrives home and lays excellent eggs too!  She is even lovey lap baby!  The body of Sweet Pea has more purple than blue, but the photographs just don't grab that purple...in any case, I promise the purple looks great.  What you want to look at in a ptg is the values; how light and dark something is...that is the real test!  Again, this hen was a fauvist girl from the get go...there didn't have to be much of a stretch to paint her in fauvist colors!  Sweet Pea comes ready to frame or she can sit on an easel.

Sweet Pea is on hold with her sister; Big Bird, for Mary as she is traveling abroad and has no opportunity to see them just yet...so, as promised, I'm giving her that opportunity.

I want to mention a little about my process in these portraits before the project is finished.  I always start with the eyes.  It makes it so much easier to paint the rest when the eyes are finished.  I will mark the outside edges in areas so I can stay accurate, but it is the eyes, and then usually the nose...after that it just paints itself!

Here is little Sweet Pea in her display options.

The color is pretty accurate in background in this...but the purples just don't show...sigh!  Take my word for it...she looks good in purple!
I found this easel at Hobby Lobby
This Gold Leaf Floater frame was purchased through pictureframes.com in their floater frame section.

"CHARLIE" 80/101 OF 101 PET PORTRAITS IN 101 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

Charlie has been sold to his pet mom Jan.  Thanks Jan!!
"Charlie" is otherwise known as Charles Albert Dorian Grey.  He came to his pet mom; Jan Justice with those beautiful turquoise eyes and quite hostile, but after some time and love he became and affectionate...which his pet mom says was entirely worth it!  I loved painting my interpretation of those beautiful eyes!  He was fauvist from the get go!  The light in this photo that Jan sent me made for a dramatic and fun painting!  Charlie comes ready to frame or can sit on an easel.

Again, the color in Charlie's background is a fun apple green...I hope that is what you see on your monitors, but they can be so stubborn sometimes!

Charlie has his fun frame ideas below; including an easel that can be found at Hobby Lobby.

These floater frames can be purchased through pictureframes.com in their floater frame section.  They are wood frames.  This one is the black  CF1

"LILLY" 79/101 OF 101 PET PORTRAITS IN 101 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

This is "Lilly" .  Lilly has a wonderful story...On January of 2011, Ryan (Lilly's pet dad) and friends were paddling!!! They spotted Lilly on a bridge called LILLY Bridge (thus the name). They went to the homes around and no one claimed her...so he brought her home. She was pitiful, had a staff infection and mange!  Took several months to clear things up....and of course she's had 2 ACL surgeries! She (I'm told) has the sweetest little heart in the world and tries so hard to be a good girl!!!! But she get's so excited she can't stop jumping when she meets someone..."

I LOVE stories like this one...Lilly ended up having a wonderful family who loved her so much and took her in...I just had to give Lilly feminine colors...but, still a great fauvist painting!  ALL THAT COLOR!  FUN!  Lilly comes ready to frame or she can sit on an easel.

Below is Lilly in all her Lilly glory!  The frames are floater frames and can be found at pictureframes.com and the easel can be found at Hobby Lobby.

"BOBO" 75/101 OF 101 PET PORTRAITS IN 101 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

SOLD to his pet mom...thank you Suzanne!

"BoBo" was a serious fellow I hear...a black lab.  I liked this photo of him because he looked rather happy...although serious, I like to think of him smiling right there!  I used strong dark blues and purples with some cerulean blues as the lighter areas...I gave him a true fauvist tongue with the strong color...but kept his beautiful brown eyes.  The buttery yellow and cerulean blue background seemed to be another color that was hard to photograph...The yellow on MY monitor seems too strong...but it is hard to know what your monitors show.  I would call it a squash; a buttery squash.  BoBo was pet kid to my friend Suzanne Grimes.  He is no longer, but I'm sure the whole family has great memories of him!

BoBo looks fun in all his display options...which is your favorite?
This easel can be found at Hobby Lobby
I like him in the gold...that is because Gold is a cousin to orange; which is the opposite on the color wheel to blue...so, a good contrast...also, it is a good companion to the yellow.
This floater frame can be purchased at pictureframes.com

"HUMBUJ" 71/101 PET PORTRAITS IN 101 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Humbuj" was a fascinating challenge kitty to paint...I BELIEVE she is a persian kitty, but I'm not sure.  It was interesting to figure out the lost and found areas of her fur...It was kind of like painting a semi invisible puff of fur!  FUN!  I used dark blues and purples to bring the darkest darks...and went all out pink for the background.  A great challenge to work with the bright colors and strong strokes of the fauve's!

Which of Humbuj's display options do you feel serves her best?
Love the simplicity of the easel.  This one can be found at Hobby Lobby

Black Floater Frame (the ptg. looks like it floats in the frame; good for those paintings where you want to see all the edges)  This and the ones following can be found at pictureframes.com in their floater frame section.  Right now they have free shipping for orders over $75.

"HENRY" 69/101 OF MY 101 PET PORTRAITS IN 101 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

SOLD TO HIS PET MOM...THANK YOU MELANIE!

"Henry" or...Henry Harrison Fulenwider, as I am told is the ONLY child of Melanie Harrison and her loved one whom I do not have a name for.  I also hear that he LOVES outside; especially at Grand Lake!  Henry came to me and I was thrilled to give him those fun blues and peachy colors...his background is a buttery yellow.  He is a great example of playing fauvist style!  See Henry in all his glory in his frame and easel suggestions!  Remember floater frames (frames where the edges show) are found at pictureframes.com.  The easel is found at Hobby Lobby!

"CHICHI" 67/101 OF 101 PET PORTRAITS IN 101 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Chichi" is a beautiful cat with lots of orange...so, to stay in keeping with fauvist tradition, I brightened him up and made his colors orange!!  FUN!  I love his eyes, that are close to his original orangy coat.  "Chichi"'s pet mom is Ariana Jones; also pet mom to her pet frog Lucy; who was 65/101.  Chichi comes ready to frame or sit on an easel.

Chichi looks sweet in all his frame choices, which is your favorite?

You can find these floater frames at pictureframes.com and the easel at Hobby Lobby.

"LUCY" 65/101 OF 101 PET PORTRAITS IN 101 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

I had SO MUCH FUN painting Lucy!  I believe she is a tree frog...so her colors were ALREADY fauvist...I just punched them up a bit!  Lucy's pet mom is Ariana Jones.  Ariana is a student of Gail James; ROXY's mom...the Cocker Spaniel pup from a few weeks ago.  I was really excited to paint Lucy for Ariana and this project!

Lucy looks good in all the choices for display...which is YOUR favorite?
I am really liking the easel selection for these pets!
