PET PORTRAITS, CANVAS BASKETS AND ORNAMENT FUN and MORE! © SAUNDRA LANE FINE ART

Raja
pet kid
commissioned

Raja is a kitty that has passed on to kitty heaven.  I did this commission for a dear friend who loved her dearly!  These are important portraits for me, they are a tribute...they make me smile, and cry and remember how important life is in all forms!  I loved her coloring all ready, but as is my style, I play with color (all except the eyes)...it's the fun part of being an artist!
Sasha
pet kid
commission
Sasha is the pet kid of a gentleman who owns a business up here in Conifer.  She was commissioned by Raja's mom as a gift, so I try to say very little...no giving away surprises!! :)  I love this dog...she poses for pics...she's a sweetie pie for sure!

This is an unusual but fun time of year for me...I spend a lot of time on commissions and gifts that make it look like I'm not doing anything, when in fact, it's one of the busiest times of year for me.  I just don't post a lot of them as folks who are recipients of the gifts might see!  It is after the holidays that I start back on the main body of my work...so hang on! :)

I've been really busy creating canvas baskets and affirmation ornaments for classes and such...below are just a few of what I've done.

and, a couple more commissions...
My son-in-law LOVES the Huskers...doing a helmet was my daughter's idea...so that is next for my easel...and one that is very important, that I will probably cry through, but I'm honored to do it...My co-grandma's father passed away recently.  She took this photo of her holding her dad's hand...my sweet daughter thought it might be a good gift for her this year, so this will be a blessing painting!
SO, as you can see, busy days here in my studio!  I love this time of year for the gifts and commissions I am honored to do, and know that soon I will be back at my easel with my mixed media paintings...some of which I've already started!  I hope this year finds you able to do blessings in whatever creative way is YOUR way!

KEEP THE INSPIRATION IN YOUR HEART!!

"PIXIE" A CAT WITH A SENSE OF HUMOR © SAUNDRA LANE FINE ART

"Pixie" is a cat that I follow on facebook.  She lives and is loved at a shelter in Charlotte NC where a facebook friend's son works.  I've seen many pics and a couple of videos, but when this fun pic was posted I wanted to paint it.  She makes me laugh...this queen of the shelter as I've come to think of her.  I believe she was greeting guests that day, but the look on her face and her body language was a kick!

I chose pink for the background because it enhanced those beautiful green eyes of hers, but I wonder if she would approve as she seems a queen of a cat that might bristle at the lady like color! lol...I am left to wonder...

I like to show my paintings if appropriate, in a frame example...my favorite for these paintings is a floater frame.  This gold frame I purchased from pictureframes.com in their floater frame section.  I think she looks royal in the gold...
As I said in my last post, I MISS painting pet kids...so I picked her to get me going again!

"BENTLEY" AND A BIRTHDAY SURPRISE...© SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Bentley"
6"x6" oil on textured panel
Private Collection
Last time I was in Texas my wonderful sister in law gave me the most beautiful hair experience...cut and color...I felt wonderful!  SO, to say thank you I painted her pup for her...You just can't do enough for a person that fixes your hair!  Bentley is the dog that was viciously attacked by a pit bull mix dog and almost killed...along with my sister...so, we are so happy to say he made it through!

I've been really busy the past few months with lots of things...the slice paintings, the affirmation sticks, and then there is working on things for my wonderful family in Nebraska...

My daughter asked for aprons for her birthday...matching ones for her and sweet baby Gracyn for when she wants to cook with momma.  SO, I got busy, got patterns, fabric and notions...it was FUN!  HOWEVER, I will never gripe about prices of aprons in the world again...it just isn't as inexpensive as it used to be to sew.  I am not sorry, because I enjoyed the end results.  I intended to do two sets, but ran across the fabric in the aprons below and fell in love!
She asked for grey, red, yellow, grey...those colors...the above was my idea of the red/grey...
Next came the grey/yellow/black...the buttons have a G on them for Grimes...well, actually miss Gracyn's is for Gracyn Grimes!

I loved this pattern for it's simplicity, and got a surprise when sewing as the sides are actually casings for the neck and ties...it's all one long piece so the neck can be adjusted!  COOL!  I also loved the God phrases on this fabric...I just HAD to do this one too!
SO, busy days in my studio...and NOW another moose...coming soon!

"LOTTIE B" © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

Lottie B
6"x6"
oil on slightly textured panel
SOLD to collector
Not much different in color on this second pet portrait of Lottie but the background...For some reason the green didn't come off like it really is...it is more appleish green...and the bits of blue aren't as obvious...I've been having such a time with photos of late...but you get the idea!

Busy time here at the Galloway house!  What else is new! LOL...it's cleaning out old files day for me...So far I've filled two large bags of shredded docs...I hope I don't let it go this long next time!  But, I need to make room for walking and painting, so on I go!

"DOMINO" 101/101 OF 101 PET PORTRAITS IN 101 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

SOLD to pet mom Diana...thank you!!

Here we are at the end of my 101 Pet Portraits in 101 Days project.  I want to thank EVERYONE who participated in this project with me.  It was an honor to hear all the stories and get to know each and every beloved pet through painting them!  I learned a lot through this process.  The biggest and best thing for me is that I reaffirmed just how much I love color in my work...I do believe it will be a character in my work that I will hang on to!  I also just got a little better in some areas...not so concerned about tightness, but realized that working with simpler strokes in areas is possible and looks better to me.  I will continue to work with a mix of abstract and realism for the time being as I still find value in using both, so that has been strengthened.  THE INSPIRATION abounds after doing all these pet kids!  It leaks to my other subject matter, so on I go!  Next for me is SUMMER ART MARKET which is June 13-14 at 200 Grant in Denver.  Be watching for more information on that!

NOW!...On to Domino; my 101 of 101. Domino is a Dalmatian kid to my dear friend and co-grandma Diana Grimes.  Domino was the family kid actually, and quite a pet I hear; very much loved.  I find it fun that the 101 was a Dalmatian!  My friend Diana had the idea and I loved it from first mention!  Domino was a great fauvist experience even being "white"!  There is green and red and blue and purple and yellow all in this one "white" pet kid's portrait!  I used my honeycomb in this last portrait of this project to add a little interest to the background.

Check out Domino in all her display ideas.

The easel I found at Hobby Lobby.  Domino looks good in the easel as a simple idea!

"BERNARD II" 100/101 OF 101 PET PORTRAITS IN 101 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Bernard II" is actually the same Bernard that I painted as #1 in 101 of my 101 Pet Portraits project.  He is my niece Kensey's pet kid.  My brother sent me the first photo of the first Bernard...admittedly it wasn't the best photo, but it's still Bernard.  In this first version, My strokes were pretty loose; which is what I wanted...and I tried to see the detail.  There was no light I could see, but it still was a likeness.  In the second version, there was a bit more light...the detail was a bit more ready to see, so...we can all decide what was to be gained! lol  Again, there are much more purples in both versions that show...I just don't get why they don't translate over!  Either way, I still see Bernard in those beautiful brown eyes!

Bernard II has display ideas to show that the first Bernard didn't.  Those things were added as time went on...the easel I found at Hobby Lobby.  The floater frames were purchased through pictureframes.com.
