My daughter Michelle will be 26 in a few days. I painted this little 6x6 cradled 1 1/2" piece for her birthday. I haven't decided for sure, but I think I will stain the sides a brown. It is the top of the groom's cake they had at her wedding to her wonderful husband Damon. (scroll down a few days to see a pic of them at their wedding) It has been a couple of years for them, but they are still on their honeymoon! To watch them together is a great joy. I wanted it to be a very simple little piece without a lot of attention to actual detail, but just the subject itself being the star. I applied the background color with a pallet knife so bring a bit of understated texture. I've got a second one in my studio of the top of their wedding cake...I want them to be able to stand alone, or sit together so I have prepared the same light green background for the second piece to bring a bit of unity along with the unity that the subject matter will bring. I am glad to hopefully bring back the joy of their beginning as a couple with these little memories...
