Botanic Duck

Today was an important day for me. I subbed at a new high school for me and it was not the best experience. I have been changing the past few years; my goals; my desires about what I want to do...can do...and I'm not sure if it is teaching kids. I'm still deciding, but every day I have a negative experience it brings me closer to a decision. I am dismayed at the way things have relaxed with the youth in so many areas. I am saddened that they seem to care less, and there seems to be few consequences that affect them or inspire them to push towards a more mature way of thinking. YES, I believe that 16 and 17 years olds can display a level of maturity for their development level...sigh...

So, I had a planning period that was an hour which gave me time to do a little 4x4 painting that does quadruple duty! On Dana Marie's "Inspiration All Around Us" this pic sits this week. She asked for a photo, and I volunteered, so this is actually one I took of a duck at the Botanic Gardens last summer. It isn't (once more) my usual subject matter, but it was a nice little NON LINEAR break for me, so I painted it in acrylic. This also fits into the color scheme for Dana Marie's other challenge blog titled "Judging a Book by it's Color"...AND...I can post it on Daily Painters of Colorado...so that brings it to quadruple duty for me! YIPEE!

We are only one away from the latest goal for my next give-away. I'm looking forward to choosing from my followers!

Here is to Happy Painting Days to us all!!

I found Dana Marie's blog with your duck on it and had to try - this is great Saundra! And absolutely well done on the football stadium - it looks HUGE!

I subbed for one semester - only. While some classes made me desire my teaching degree (my degree is in accounting and in finance), there were several schools/grades that made me decide enough was enough. It is too bad that certain groups of kids really took the joy of teaching away from me. In the end, the bad experiences outweighed the good and I quit. Kids are just too entitled (to everything) these days and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot that teachers can do. I miss the days when I was in school and manners, good behavior, and family values were high on the list of what kids are taught at home.

Anyway, love the duck! (No surprise there, though, eh?)

Thank you Elana, I'm glad you stopped by.

Liz, I looked for your duck on your blog to comment, but didn't see it. I like the soft, almost ethereal way you approached yours! And...while painting the stadium I kept thinking it was HUGE! SO MANY LINES!! ha.

Autumn Leaves, I know what you are saying. I try to take each day as it comes, but yesterday got to me! whew! So glad you always stop by and are so supportive!

You did such a good job getting a "watery" feel in this painting! Very nice! And, too, I can relate to your teaching experience. So unfortunate for the kids, too. . .

Saundra, I am honored that you hopped on by blogwagon. I dropped by and have been browsing your past blogs and am fascinated...by the quality of your work and your diversity. My highest compliments. Also, it is refreshing to see someone share a glimpse of their personal life in their blog. My two daughters are schoolteachers, married to teachers, and I can certainly identify with your dilemma....actually, I could tell horror stories. Anyway, I will be checking back on your artwork from time to time. Keep on strokin'
