This bear painting was done as a request from someone who saw "Bear Visit" I did a year ago; that sold, and she loved it so much she wanted one similar...Which is good, as similar is all I would be able to do on something like this...You can see the first one below IS similar, but different...ha...I enjoyed working on it to try to give her what she wanted.  

I think each one has some fun qualities, so I didn't mind doing it...

 detail...I think she will enjoy the different paper...I know her well enough to know this...

 This gives an idea of size when put in some type of decor...

This one is cradled...I used a combination of grey and leather stain to compliment the painting.

"Bear" is another of the visitors we have up here in the foothills above Denver every year.  I painted him in the fauvist style I have come to love...COLOR!  Love it!

I enjoy mixing different frames with some molding from time to time to highlight my paintings...this one was especially FUN!

You can see in the side view how the frames work together...

This I am using as a small work that will most likely turn into a larger work.  I've got a 15"x15" cradle that just screams BEAR larger to me!  Stay tuned!

"Polar B" is a serious dude, but with a happy attitude about life. He lives just waiting to come home to you! As is he is 4"x4" oil on slightly textured panel, and can sit on an easel, or in a 4x4" frame of your choice. (remember 1/2" is taken on sides when framing). OR, for .50 more I can mount him on either a black or off white 5x5" backer board so he can be framed in your 5x5" frame with all sides showing. As is demonstrated in the two framed versions. Frames are not included, but you can find a black one like this at Michael's arts and crafts and the off white can be found in ETSY at Rustic and Refined Design! Just tooling around, this little guy; all sunlit and happy! This 5"x4" oil on textured canvas panel is ready for framing, or can sit on an easel as he is! "Little B" will be ready to ship April 28, 2014 when he is totally dry. 

I have noticed that my little paintings have morphed into animals and stuffies and such; with a precious few still life pieces.  Somewhere along the way it became about those little "aaahhhs" and giggles or smiles at the very least.  Doing these little ones makes me happy and is a great rest between my larger mixed media pieces.  And, that is OK with me! FUN DOINS!

Yes, you will notice that this painting is shown as a print.  IT DID exist as is at one time, but it was a beginning for a possible nursery painting for my grandson Ethan.  When I was painting it, I sort of loved it in it's aspen"y" state, so I took a photograph as it was before I added baby bears to it.  I thought it would be a nice print, thus putting it in my FINE ART AMERICA shop.  Kinda different, but kinda cool to have two paintings in one!!  FUN!

SO, I painted this 12"x25" cradled piece for my grandson's nursery...IF mom and dad see it and decide it is what they want...They had originally mentioned some of the animals like I did for my grandson Paxton, but I wanted to play with this idea first.  It is totally ok with me if they still want baby animal prints like I did for Paxton, but I thought of their nursery colors and just had to try...I'm waiting to hear back on which theme they want to go with. Here is the final product with the baby bears...it's a toss up to me...a fun bit of bear"y" hijinks I'll give it that!

For now I'm calling it Ethan's Bears...but if it doesn't go to live with them, I'm sure I can come up with a new title...Below are some detail shots...the sun went away, so you will notice some definite color change, and some reflections from my camera...but you get the idea!

I have been also working on bedroom curtains.  I'm learning when I need to get a lot done I just take things one step at a time.  I have a lot of e-mails from followers, asking how I do all I do...and that is the answer...one step, one day at a time! I work best when I have several projects going all at once...these curtains are a many step process...choosing fabrics AFTER I've decided colors, measuring many times, planning, sketching how I want them...etc...those of you that sew you know what I'm talking about...so, in between steps, I will escape to my studio to paint a little...I always have a few ideas ready, and supports ready...I may sketch and then go sew...then paint, then sew...It's all FUN, so I try not to get stressed...key word TRY! lol

 

I have finished one set of curtains for my bedroom.  It was really hard to get a good photo as you can see they are backlit this morning...but I think you get the idea!  I have to make these curtains just below the windowsill as there is an electric heating bank at the bottom.  The rule of thumb for hanging curtains and a windowsill is about 2" below the sill....  I lined these curtains with fabric I found at the thrift store no less!  What a find! 

 

Our previous curtains were gathered on a rod with a valance in front.  I always hated pulling them back and forth, so I designed these to hang from curtain rings for ease of opening and closing.  I also decided to contemporize them a little and "build" the valance into the curtain so we just have one thing to slide open and closed...thus the 10" "valance" sewn into the curtain fabric.  That is just step 1...if you look closely you can see black tie backs and holes in the wall...they all have to be either painted, filled or eliminated.  I will wait to see how I want to do this.  Those are steps 2 and 3 for just this window...THEN I begin the larger curtains that will span a sliding glass door.  They will be made largely with the strip you see here with a front end of the floral fabric that makes the window curtains.  AFTER that I will change what is on the walls (thank goodness I'm an artist) and add embellishments to our bedspread...paint a dresser and add a new lamp...STAY TUNED...It may take a bit, but it will be done! I'm playing around with painting all the woodwork white...I'd LOVE that...but we don't own this house, so I have to ask...not that our wonderful landlord will mind...he loves us...thank goodness!!

 

SO, the key to getting it all done? ORGANIZATION...I do it pretty good sometimes...SO, my next little ETSY is this adorably ugly, SO ugly he's cute Mocking bird baby...FUN DOINS!

"Baby Bear" is the little scamp that has been making himself known at our house this spring. He's a cutie, but he also is a "problem child"...so curious...he tears down our bird feeders, and has even gotten into my car...just like a baby! Painted in oil on panel with black sides this little guy is ready to frame as is or sit on a little easel. I can also mount him on a black backer 5"x5" board so he can be framed in a larger frame so all his sides show! Free if you just request it! I've been working hard to make life simpler. Don't we all do that from time to time? Yep...we do!  It usually comes at a time of extreme busy"ness", which is where I am right now...SO, I've been paying close attention to my analytics.  I'm not seeing much traffic come directly from my ETSY shop.  I sell quite a few "Etsy" paintings, but the traffic comes from a favorite site of mine...my DAILY PAINTWORKS site.  SO, I'm thinking I'm going to pull out of ETSY and just put my ETSY type paintings on my website and Daily Paintworks and see how that goes. 

I think ETSY is a great tool if you spend the time to market heavily and follow all their suggestions, but, for me, time is of the essence, and why feed so many sites when you find what works!  If you are looking to find a site that is well run (by David and Carol Marine) check them out!  They are awesome!!  So, on we go!!

SUMMER ART MARKET is coming quickly!  I still have a few paintings I want to get done and so little time...whew...exciting, but exhausting!
