"CURIOUS BUCK" ORIGINAL OIL ON SLIGHTLY TEXTURED 4"X4" PANEL; FRAMED © SAUNDRA LANE FINE ART

"Curious Buck"
4"x4" oil on panel; framed
$50
ON HOLD for the Mountainside Miniature Show
September 14-October 14, 2016
This is a buck that actually visited our mountain.  I caught him looking curiously in our windows one day!  He is painted on a 4"x4" panel that has slight texture.
I chose to frame him in a fun little gold 5"x5" wood frame and matt him in a contrast blue to help him pop among all the forest greens.  I could have matted him in white for a safer, more appealing to the masses end result, but I felt playful for this guy today, thus the blue!  FUN DOINS!

"MOUNTAIN MEADOW THROUGH ASPEN EYES" © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Mountain Meadow through Aspen Eyes"
24"x24" x 1.5" sides mixed media on cradled panel
$700
Available through my WEBSITE

..."through Aspen Eyes" is an important piece for me as it is one of a last of it's kind as I move a little in direction.  It is HEALTHY and GOOD for an artist to grow and change.  I still LOVE these pieces...and I may do a few more here and there, but they will be considered part of my journey through creative experiences to a newer path.  NOT BETTER per say...just a part of my growth as an artist.  I love the amount of information in this painting.  A lot of paper and acrylic is in this painting, with some oil as well...so, a true mixed media piece!  The deer; at least I think it is a deer (lol) is one that stopped at my house to visit one day.  I gave him some brighter colors to reflect the beginning of my movement and growth.  When using brighter colors to depict something it will almost ALWAYS
work if you keep the values (light and dark) the same as in life.  The purples are my way to throw a little punch into this transitional piece!  The cradle sides of this panel painting are stained a nice color to fit in to almost any decor.  I still LOVE mixing abstract elements in my work with a bit of realism...this piece has abstract elements in the meadow part.  I love it for this piece.  As I play in my work in my process of growth, I see a bit more pattern and abstract elements mixed in.  Stay tuned for the next piece as explanation.  I absolutely LOVE working my aspen trees with the detail...so, I see them popping up as I continue on my journey!
detail of deer...if you see some cloudy areas it comes from adding other elements to a painting that I first called finished.  I suspect it is the medium and will be eliminated when I seal the entire painting as it dries.

This piece will be at SUMMER ART MARKET this June 13-14 at 200 Grant Street in Denver.  I am booth number 54!  Hope to see you there!

"MOUNTAIN MEADOW" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA ON CRADLED PANEL © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Mountain Meadow"
24"x24"
Mixed Media on Cradled Panel

A friend of mine allowed me to use her mountain photo of this beautiful mountain meadow. The original photo had a pathway and a big rock in the foreground, but I decided to add the deer visitor I had recently on my back deck...Most of it is painted in acrylic, with my papers added in...but the deer is painted in oil.  This one is off to my gallery in Louisville next week...I haven't stained the sides yet, so it isn't even in my website yet.

I've been really busy working on several paintings at once for several galleries...poppies are on my easel now.  Stay tuned!!

I had the owners who commissioned me to paint their Cairn puppies in my studio recently.  I asked them to give me a few pointers as they know their babies well...they were reluctant at first, but when I explained it would be of benefit the husband suggested that the front pup; Forrest was "beefier"...so, while they were here I painted him beefier...and they were thrilled.  It is a GOOD THING to interact with your collectors when you can...it makes the whole experience a little more personal...here is the final version of "Darby and Forrest"

I'm always, ALWAYS on the lookout for photo moments...This time it was a little visitor to my yard and my geraniums and zinnias...ENJOY!

Final Workshop Day

Carol Critiquing my funny little red piece.

It was a FUN and very informative workshop with Carol Nelson!  If anyone ever has a chance to take a Carol Nelson Workshop DO SO!  Carol is one of the most generous teachers...giving of herself, her materials, and her knowledge.  I have taken this workshop once before.  It was a one day workshop then...but Carol quickly learned she has enough to teach us to take at least two days.  Carol was showing us techniques that she uses to create her beautiful abstract pieces, but since I went once before I was trying to glean information that I may use with my type of work.  I am NOT an abstract artist.  As you could tell with my "tree" piece from the last post I can't keep trees out of it...except perhaps with this little red piece I did as part of a challenge Carol gave us.  We were to use three analogous colors and black to create an abstract.  Regardless I kept trying to pull some sort of land mass from it, and wasn't really successful, but Carol was kind to me in my critique! PS...Carol's piece is on the left...NOW you can see why she is the master!!

I think the MOST fun I had was drilling holes for brads and such...and I learned a lot about adhesives, and pouring epoxy and different materials.  I enjoyed working with different things to use to get a texture pattern that I then applied gold leaf to...might be able to use that...You can see my efforts in this leaf piece.  Yep...had to put something tree in there!

As I left yesterday I was being watched by this little beauty.  She watched me until she was convinced that I was going out a door that wasn't threatening, and when she was comfortable she began to wander off...but not without a backward glance to say goodbye.  I will miss these visitors when we move!

Another exciting thing was Carol brought me the portrait she painted of my Michelle...I was SO excited to have her sitting there with me!  Now I am waiting (patiently) for the one of me...that should be a kick!
Next is to get back to work on my "pear series" of at least two! :)  And, waiting for the teacher I will be long term subbing for to have her baby.  She is going to work til the end, or as close as she can get...so I feel like an expectant parent...waiting for that call that will cause me to jump to action...in my case...teaching full time for awhile.

Pouring Epoxy over one of Carol's pieces...

I am determined to continue posting every day or as close to it as I can get...so you may see strange things for a couple of months in between the paintings I am able to finish.  I told the students I wanted to work projects with them...so there will be a little of that too...and perhaps a painting challenge thrown in for you all from some photos...So, I'm not going anywhere...just adapting to my ever changing life!!

WOO HOO!!  Somehow during my workshop we went to 102 followers!! Welcome to my newest!!  I will be choosing the winner of the give-away 4x4 and announce it in tomorrows post!!  YIPPEE!!

HAPPY SUNDAY CREATING TO YOU ALL!!
