Wax Collage is an interesting process which I will be doing more of in the future. It is also called encaustic painting. The literal meaning of encaustic is "burned". So, the wax is "burned" or melted onto a surface. You can go many different ways with encaustic painting. Using wax as a glue, mixing wax with pigments or oil sticks, mixing it with damar resin as a medium and layering...it is so versitile. As I do more I will be talking more about this fun medium of work.

beautiful work, Saundra. I love encaustic work, but haven't been brave enough to try it. It has such a unique rich glow to it. So cool you're mixing so many media (mediums?) here!
Oh, goody! I've been wanting to know how YOU do encaustic. I took a workshop a couple of years ago, and it surely seemed hard and a little dangerous.
I love this painting. I love the sky and its effect on the landscape.
Thank you girls! One thing I like about encaustic is how you never know for SURE how it will go...some papers are so transparent and some not so much...but, STAY tuned...I've learned a couple things that I'm glad to share!
