This fun little "slice of life" painting is cupcakes today.  I am finding that just about any subject matter will work in my SOL paintings and I plan to keep it up to see just how many subjects can work with this fun little composition.  The beads below that look like they are just randomly scattered below are a red coral I believe...I've had them in my jewelry supplies I am fairly certain that is what they are...I put them on to give that fun texture and a way to bring the unifying color below the slice...I just LOVE TEXTURE!   You can't really see the texture that is over the entire front surface of this 12"x12" canvas...but it is there and adds a great amount of interest to this off white surface.  You can see my signature paper streaming through this little cupcake parade as well.  I like that this can be an affordable option for a painting with a smaller price tag than would be if these little guys were covering the entire surface!  My way of trying to bring affordable and fun art to everyone!

Another thing I love about these slice of life paintings, as I am calling them, is they lend themselves perfectly to layering in your decor!  So many now are layering artwork on mantles and shelves, and this is a great way to meld this wonderful piece into your decor as the example of my little pear hanging out bringing the greens into focus!  FUN DOINS!

"MISS G" A GOAT LADY © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

STILL inspired by my friends at the fixer upper show; Chip and Joanna Gaines, knowing they have goats as their unofficial mascot...just had to paint this little sweet goat.  She made me laugh as I think their lips are much like humans...FUN!
I'm still having fun with the floater frames for my 6x6's...this one is from PictureFrames.com.

UPCYCLED FRAMES A SIMPLE EXPLANATION © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

Anyone can make a frame to fit a specific need with just a few steps!  I wanted to show you how you can do it too!  This is a frame I painted and then distressed.  The hemp is on the outside of the glass...
Check out how simple the materials are!  An old frame you may or may not want to paint and distress.  A piece of  fun paper, the glass, a piece of hemp rope and a few little cloths pins you can get at your local craft store.  THAT'S IT!

Step 1: Prepare your frame to look the way you want.
Step 2: using the glass as a template, cut out any kind of fun paper that you want to show through.
Step 3: paint the clothes pins if you want
Step 4: string the hemp line across the back and staple down.
Step 5: lay your glass with the paper down on top and then a piece of cardboard and staple in...or, if you don't have a staple for framing, tape it down.
Step 5: attach your clothes pins and a photo!

IT'S THAT SIMPLE!  FUN DOINS!

Here is a second one I made...I'm sure you can see all the parts...you can use any ephemera or button or bead...go crazy!
This was an old frame I found at a thrift store that was unfinished.  I think Hobby Lobby originally carried them.  The "glass" was a piece of plastic.  You can see my process...glued the clothes pin on top...put paper under the plastic...added a couple things and there tis!

This all came about yesterday when my mom mentioned she had a couple pictures that a frame wouldn't work...so I made her something that she could put them in without framing.  Inspiration can sometimes come from a need...just stop and think for a few minutes and before long an idea will pop up!

"MAGNOLIAS" ORIGINAL OIL ON STRETCHED CANVAS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Magnolias" is another in my series of "slice" paintings.  I take a "slice" of the canvas and paint the subject matter within those boundaries.  I have been adding something underneath each painting, something that seems to compliment the piece.  This one is an original pencil sketch of a magnolia.  The texture in this canvas is more organic in nature; as are the flowers.  The background is a cream color.  I really enjoy working with these "slice" paintings as the contrast is strong no matter the subject...so far!  Next I have acorns on my easel for the 4th in my slice series.  Stay tuned!

"ASPEN TRAVELS" ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA PAINTING OF ASPEN © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

detail
(loving texture as I do, I had been considering the wraps as affirmation sticks on their own, but this one just needed the color and texture...stay tuned for my affirmation sticks as stand alone pieces!)
"Aspen Travels" is a first of a kind with the addition of the wrapped stick to add texture and color to this "slice" of a scene of an aspen stand.  There is a fun vertical texture added to this 20"x20" stretched canvas with the aspen taking up a portion of the top.  It's meant to be a "slice" of subject matter on the wonderful ever so slightly greyish white textured surface.  The aspen stand is acrylic, paper and oil. The colors in the wrap compliment the colors found in this slice of aspen life and add a great bit of texture to this painting.  The wrapped stick is attached securely so is a permanent addition to this assemblage painting.  Truly one of a kind.  A great way to own a larger canvas that is priced reflecting the color portions of this piece.

This is a second in a series that I am developing.  You may remember "Color Gives Us Clarity"

Ever searching for inspiration to grow and grow...

"ORCHID TRIO" © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY; OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW!

These flowers were actually part of a larger painting I did a couple of months ago.  It just seemed there was too much negative space for my taste, SO, as artists will do if something is before them too long...I made it BETTER!  This fun little triptych can be hung in a variety of ways...makes for more versatility for your wall space.  Here is the original painting...don't you just LOVE the change? HA...well, I'm sorry if you don't, cuz I do, and well, that one is now THIS one!  FUN DOINS!
 ORIGINAL VERSION
just too boring for me!

This one is 10"x8" canvas attached to bass wood cradled panel and painted off white around sides.
I call this section the "Orchid Face"
8"x8" canvas attached to cradled panel and painted in the off white around
This section I call "Half and Half"
8"x8" canvas attached to cradled panel and painted like the other two
side view.  The cradle is just under 1" deep.  Wire is attached to each painting for easy hanging.

Somehow I don't think this will last long...or, it could just be I love this one so!!

NEW ABSTRACT FOR ME! SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

Occasionally I take time out to do something for the house...this little abstract that my husband says should be "Onion Rings" was just a fun little thing to play with that has the colors in the rug I got for one of our bathrooms...framed and on the wall it is just a splash to compliment.
The rug that started it all!!  HA
my first painting that takes a slice out of the canvas...in a fun way!  "Color Gives Us Clarity"
Over the Christmas holidays I did a few commissions, one that was a last minute was crazy because it was such a rush...but it made it to LA just in time! WHEW
"Oscar Part Deux"
12"x12"
SOLD
this guy was one done from a small little "Oscar" that reminded a woman of her ostrich on their farm that she loves...so her husband asked me to paint one bigger with the orange popping more...here was the original dude that sold some long time ago.
"Oscar"
4"x4"
SOLD

so, next I'm playing with my slice paintings, and OH...I cut one up and made three from it...more on that later! FUN DOINS!
