"CAMELBACK MOUNTAIN" OIL OF THIS ARIZONA MOUNTAIN © SAUNDRA LANE FINE ART

"Camelback Mountain"
6"x6" oil on panel
$75
Available through my website
I am still slipping in mountain summits for my project of the same name.  The name "Camelback Mountain" is  derived from its shape, which resembles the hump and head of a kneeling camel. You can find this mountain in Phoenix, AZ.  I like to add a frame suggestion for these fun paintings, and my favorite is a floater frame because it shows all the edges.  I get my floater frames on line from a company called pictureframes.com.  They offer a good selection of floater frames.

"CURIOUS BUCK" ORIGINAL OIL ON SLIGHTLY TEXTURED 4"X4" PANEL; FRAMED © SAUNDRA LANE FINE ART

"Curious Buck"
4"x4" oil on panel; framed
$50
ON HOLD for the Mountainside Miniature Show
September 14-October 14, 2016
This is a buck that actually visited our mountain.  I caught him looking curiously in our windows one day!  He is painted on a 4"x4" panel that has slight texture.
I chose to frame him in a fun little gold 5"x5" wood frame and matt him in a contrast blue to help him pop among all the forest greens.  I could have matted him in white for a safer, more appealing to the masses end result, but I felt playful for this guy today, thus the blue!  FUN DOINS!

"SAY WHAT?" - AN OSTRICH! © SAUNDRA LANE FINE ART

"Say What?" - an Ostrich
5"x5" oil on slightly textured 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas
$60
ON HOLD for Mountainside Miniature show
Sept 14-Oct 14, 2016
It's that time again for the Mountainside Miniature Show here in Colorado.  I always enjoy doing these shows as I like to paint small works along with my larger ones.  I love the square format, so almost always do a square.  This year I decided to do all animals as I've been missing doing them lately...so the first one is an ostrich of course...they make me LAUGH!

Next on my easel is a giraffe...FUN DOINS!

In line with the animals, I now offer gift certificates for those who want to give a loved one a gift of a custom pet portrait for their own pet kid!  Just contact me and I'll create an invoice for you and then send them this certificate!  FUN!
A few months ago I won a give away offered on the blog of a wonderful artist couple Alisa Burke and her extremely talented husband Andy.  He does the drawing and then she adds her own custom flair with lots of pattern and color!  I CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT!

"SUPERSTITION MOUNTAIN" SUMMIT © SAUNDRA LANE FINE ART

"Superstition Mountain" is part of the Superstition Mountains just east of Phoenix.  The mountain range is in the federally designated Superstition Wilderness Area.  The elevation in the more remote, eastern portion of the wilderness is higher than the western portion, which lowers temperatures slightly. Numerous hiking trails cross the mountains from multiple access points, including the Peralta Trailhead, the most popular. The Lost Dutchman State Park, located on the west side of Superstition Mountain, includes several short walking trails.  This is painted in oil on panel and is ready for framing or can sit on an easel or a shelf as is!  In this suggestion for frames I have placed it in a floater frame (not included).  I purchase my floater frames at pictureframes.com in their floater frame section.  The frame shown is CFS3.

"PIXIE" A CAT WITH A SENSE OF HUMOR © SAUNDRA LANE FINE ART

"Pixie" is a cat that I follow on facebook.  She lives and is loved at a shelter in Charlotte NC where a facebook friend's son works.  I've seen many pics and a couple of videos, but when this fun pic was posted I wanted to paint it.  She makes me laugh...this queen of the shelter as I've come to think of her.  I believe she was greeting guests that day, but the look on her face and her body language was a kick!

I chose pink for the background because it enhanced those beautiful green eyes of hers, but I wonder if she would approve as she seems a queen of a cat that might bristle at the lady like color! lol...I am left to wonder...

I like to show my paintings if appropriate, in a frame example...my favorite for these paintings is a floater frame.  This gold frame I purchased from pictureframes.com in their floater frame section.  I think she looks royal in the gold...
As I said in my last post, I MISS painting pet kids...so I picked her to get me going again!

"MT. SNEFFELS" ORIGINAL OIL OF COLORADO MOUNTAIN © SAUNDRA LANE FINE ART

It was time to pull out another summit request for my mountain summit project.  Next in line are a few from Arizona that were suggested.  I enjoy capturing these summits; though they are the tippy top they all seem to have their own personality.

"Mt. Sneffels" is a mountain in the San Juan Range near the town of Ouray in southwest Colorado.  This mountain summit rises to just over 14,150 ft., so is one of Colorado's 14ers as we call them.  Mt. Sneffels is named after the iconic peak in the Jules Verne’s novel, Journey to the Center of the Earth.  When painting this summit I take care to get the silhouette correct and then add a bit of texture to bring out some of the crags. "Mt. Sneffels" comes ready to frame or can sit on a small easel or just leaned against something on your favorite shelf.  The frame suggestion that is my favorite for my 6"x6" paintings is the floater frame.  (Frame not included).  I get my floater frames from pictureframes.com in the floater frame section. I like these frames as you can see the painting from edge to edge.

"BE THE CHANGE" latest affirmation stick added to my ETSY shop © SAUNDRA LANE FINE ART

"Be the Change" is my first customized quote affirmation stick. I enjoy using the pre made quotes I find here and there, but on this one I took the quote "Be the Change You Wish to See" by Gandi and customized it on paper and then covered it with resin so it would be firm enough to attach to my dowel. This makes these affirmation sticks a customizable item for me! YAY! This is wrapped with canvas, leather, wire with beads added. These affirmation sticks are meant to be a reminder that you hang near your work station or anywhere else you need a reminder to, as in this case, BE that Change You Wish to See in this world! This dowel is apx 12" long and attached to a piece of barnwood.
In the detail of the swag you will see Howlite chips, silver bling and even a canvas bead.  I use these for a bit of color, texture and well, design fun!  I've also added the Howlite beads to the dowel as you can see.

WHY do I make these?  Well, as I have said in the past, I need a switch up now and then to clear my creative pallet so to speak.  Not only do I love working with lots of different media and objects in my artwork, but I love the words that can so often speak to that part of us that needs a bit of a boost.  For me, to look at a dowel for instance and think..."what can I make with this?  what can I do to create something new?"  I find that in the process of creating something new, it frees my creative spirit and helps in my paintings and other creative aspects of my life.

I highly encourage you, especially if you are in a slump of any kind, to take an object and let your creative brain take over...make something new, do something different with it...it is FUN and often will free you from the slump and get you back on track again!
