"LARRY" ORIGINAL PET PORTRAIT © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Larry"
6"x6" oil on slightly textured panel
SOLD to his pet mom Carol Nelson
Thanks Carol!

"Larry" is another pet portrait that I've done after the fauvist fashion.  He isn't part of my 101 Pet Portraits, but only because he was #102!  I LOVED painting pet portraits SO much that I've decided to offer my services on a permanent basis.  If you are interested in having this done for one of your babies, just click on the menu bar link at the top of my bog titled ORDER YOUR OWN PET PORTRAIT.  Or, click that link and it will take you to the same page! HA!  It explains what I need to get you started.  FUN!

Larry was a sweetheart to paint.  I forgot to ask Carol what he was, but I CAN say just look at those eyes!  I used lots of dark blue and purple in Larry...with a fun color I found called "Green Bean Grey".  A little stamping around the edges and he just popped out!

It was a grey day for photographing AGAIN (seems that is the theme of this spring), so this easel shot is a bit dark, but you get the idea.

SOLD :)
Pixel is pet kid to Anne....daughter to Marie Ann Dany (I just got these girls straight!)...who sent me the photo...SO, I'm curious to see what they think!  I have SO much fun with these pet kids!!

I really enjoyed all the soft purples and peaches in Pixel; giving her that fauvist look!  And, I think cat eyes are SO gorgeous!

Pixel looks so sweet in her framing suggestions.  The easel can be found at Hobby Lobby, and the floater frames (frames that show all the edges) can be found at pictureframes.com.  They come with instructions, but I have easier ones...just ask if you are confused!!

"Teddy" 61/101 of 101 PET PORTRAITS IN 101 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

Teddy is a sweet, green eyed kitty whose pet parents are Carrie and Todd Johnson.  Their daughter Rachael sent me this photo and I thank them all for letting me paint this little sweetheart!  Teddy has such beautiful green eyes!  I used strong blues and peachy colors as good strong color as the fauvists' used, as well as warm and cool for a great balance.  Teddy comes to you ready to frame or to sit on a small easel.

I find it fun to photograph all the pet portraits in the frame and easel ideas...it really gives a person a good idea as to how they may want to display their pet kids!!  Here are Teddy's photos!

"HAWKEYE" 46/100 OF 100 PET PORTRAITS IN 100 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Hawkeye" is a beautiful lab/hound mix pup that is pet kid to yesterday's pet mom Kelina Moore.  Kelina was so sweet to send me these two beautiful photographs. In fact, her pet pup Dodger from yesterday sold.  This brings up a point I want to make again.  When I set this project up I made it clear that no one is obligated to purchase their pet portrait.  BECAUSE I set this up with no obligation I put them up for sale on my website just for general sale.  Often these portraits sell quickly, and sometimes they sell before the pet parent can get to the computer.  SO, I do make this offer, that IF a pet parent is going to purchase, but for whatever reason can't do it right away, please let me know.  I will gladly put your pet on hold for sale for a bit until you can get it done.  JUST SAYIN!

Hawkeye is full of very bold color right out of the tube, so I'm sayin he fits nicely in the fauvist part of my project within my style!!  FUN!  Take a look at his frame ideas (remember the frames are not included in purchase).  You can find these frames at pictureframes.com.  Go to their floater frame section.

Black Floater Frame CF1
Maple Floater Frame CFS10

Remember Floater Frames are frames that show all edges.  It is perfect for the paintings that have important parts right up next to the edge as traditional frames take 1/2" on all sides.  To frame these MDF panels (that are 1/8" thick" I have cut foam core (you could do cardboard) the exact size of the painting, and attached 2 permanant mounting squares (made by Scotch and can be found at Walmart) to the foam core...and then press the painting on.  All you have to do is either glue or attach the foam core to the bottom section of the foam core (this makes sense when you have it in front of you), and voila` you are in the frame!!  They send you wire and such for the back as well...just attach that and you are done!!

"ALEX" 43/100 OF 100 PET PORTRAITS IN 100 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

SOLD
I think Alex was fun and challenging at the same time.  The photo is a bit grainy, but I could see enough to get a likeness...and then I got to play with color.  The bright right out of the tube orange was a fun background and loved the bits of color I snuck in here and there!

This photo was taken on Alex's 16th birthday...loved the party hat!  Alex's pet mom is Amber and I'm so glad she allowed me to paint this pup!  Here are my frame ideas so you can see how Alex would look in different colors.  They are all the floater frames I got from pictureframes.com in their floater frame section.

"RUFUS" 38/100 OF 100 PET PORTRAITS IN 100 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

6"x6" oil on panel
SOLD to his Pet mom Carrie!

"Rufus" was a fun dude to paint.  I loved the tongue and the reds and oranges and blues that made up this sweet looking dog!  Carrie Bradley is pet mom to Rufus.  I hear he passed away recently, so it was an honor to be able to paint him in fun colors as a tribute to this wonderful dog!

I think Rufus looked interesting in all the frame choices I have, but he is another one that would work in just about any type of frame.  Standard frames take about 1/2" on all sides, so that would work fine for Rufus.  He also works in these floater frame types that show all sides.  These frames can be found at pictureframes.com in their floater frame section.

Just a note about photos for this project.  IF you have been thinking about sending in a photo I'd so it soon...we are in the last 25 photos needed!  It's been a great project so far!  Keep em coming!

"HUBERT" 37/100 OF 100 PET PORTRAITS IN 100 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

"Hubert" is another free photo I found when I began this project while I was waiting for photos from you all.  I was drawn to him because of his very regal face...he's so serious, but you can tell he's lovable!  I think he is a boxer mix of some sort, but you dog lovers out there may know different.  I loved using the bright oranges and blues right out of the tube on Hubert!  That and the bold brush strokes make him a great fauvist model!  He looked like he might work in the following floater frames, but he would also look good in a traditional frame that takes about 1/2" off each side.

"PHEBE" 33/100 OF 100 PET PORTRAITS IN 100 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

 "Phebe"
6"x6" oil on panel
SOLD to her pet mom!
Phebe was an interesting challenge for me.  Her pose had her body; which was similar value to the rest; covering just about the whole frame.  I LOVE the way she is looking up, so felt I had to use this pose...AND her cat mom Cathie Lang also liked this pose.  So, thinking as fauvist as I possibly could I just got out those wonderful oranges and pinks and went to town!  The darks were blues and purples I laid in on top of the strong colors. She has turned out to be one of my favorites...although, to be honest folks...they are all a favorite when I'm working on them! HA.

Here is Phebe in all her feline glory in the three frame suggestion colors I have.  I'd love to throw them in too, but they are a bit much...so you can find them at pictureframes.com in their floater frame section.  The ones I've bought are $26.40 each...I'm not fond of shipping...which is almost $17 each...but I'm working on them looking at that situation and helping folks by lowering their shipping costs...STILL...to get a framed piece for less than $40 is a good deal.  Here is the link to the post where I talk about how to easily frame them if you have no mad wood working skills! scroll to the bottom.

"EMMA" 19/100 OF 100 PET PORTRAITS IN 100 DAYS © SAUNDRA LANE GALLOWAY

I really enjoyed painting Emma.  Rachael is her pet mom and was kind enough to share this photo.  In fact, Rachael is pet mom to 3 cats in this series...the other two girls coming up soon.  I have found this project to be so very rewarding!  I get to see these animals, paint them...and play with color and brush strokes.  I have learned so much about painting through this process.  I appreciate every single contributant!

You can find frames like this floater frame at pictureframes.com (the painting looks like it is floating inside the frame) (all sides and edges show!) .  Just type in floater frames and you can see all the choices.  The price is good...for these it is $26.40.  I'm not too fond of shipping which is $16.95 for one frame...however, it is still a bargain...and MOST of the time this site has a sale going...so you can get a little off!  Framing these portraits is easy...just cut a piece of cardboard the size of the bottom section...glue a small piece of 1/4" wood in the middle...glue the painting on and voila` you are done!!
