Yes, tiz the season where we begin to think holidays...even as it is Halloween today...we all do it...think about Christmas and all that goes with it...decorating, gift making or buying...sigh...it's fun and it's WORK too! HA.

 

I decided to include my santa painting in my holiday studio sale...the ONLY Christmassy thing I have this year...which is OK! Santa is painted in oil over my mixed media background...even has a little texture added to his buttons... 

I stained the sides a golden brown that compliments the colors in his background perfectly!  He's all ready to hang and decorate your home for the holidays. 

I decided to give him to you at such a low price for his size as I am feeling a bit generous this holiday season, and he is, well, seasonal...so just right in time for the, well, SEASON!  If you live in town I'll be glad to forgo the shipping and we can meet somewhere to deliver! YEA!

 

It's back to the easel for me...I've just finished an acorn painting that I'll happily post tomorrow!!

This is another case of sitting in my studio and I began to look at it a bit...and before I knew it I'd grabbed it up and added something...In this case the stamping with texture in the background.  It just needed a little sumpin sumpin...:)  I'll have this at the Art Show on October 27 at my co-artist and friend's house Susan Gordon.

I also was able to RE photograph "Pine Forest" before I take it to my gallery in Lousiville on Thursday...I'm not sure how much better it is...but, it's a little...maybe...$250 + shipping can be found at my website for now...:)

"Pine Forest"

I really enjoyed painting this long skinny of a pine forest, but I had a devil of a time photographing it.  We aren't enjoying a sunny day...problem one...and these long skinnies are difficult to photograph due to their unique shape. 

 



even the detail shot is a little hazy...sigh...I'll try to rephotograph it another day...but for now you get the gist.

 

I will be taking this to my gallery in Louisville; Creations Art and Gifts the end of the month so it can be seen in person.

 

I've stained the sides to compliment as I do with my cradled pieces.  A fun one!

 

I couldn't let it go by without sharing one of the joys of my life... aside from art...my grandson Paxton.  He REALLY LOVES SESAME STREET!

This is a re make of an earlier painting that was called "Aspen in Orange and Blue". It is true that if an artist has a painting long enough it may go back on the easel...that is the case for this painting.  Although it was OK as it was...full of strong color, I felt this particular painting was TOO strong, and the bright color coupled with it's size was overpowering the aspen; which were the star of the show.  It always felt a little strong to me so I reworked it to this piece that is much better for showing off my most loved aspen!

I left the side color the Red Mahogony color it was as it compliments the shadows of the aspen nicely.  I will be taking this to my gallery in Louisville the end of the month (Creations Art and Gifts) if you want to see it in person.

It's been a busy time in the studio as I am working to frame and paint the last things I will be taking with me to the open house art sale I am hosting with my friend Susan Gordon. I really enjoy just taking a subject that grabs me for the moment and painting for my ETSY shop! I THINK this is the cat of a friend of mine, Kate. I have thousands of photos in my references, so sometimes I forget the connections. I think yesterday I was craving a bit of soft and gentle, thus the kitty.  As I do in my ETSY shop, I paint a slightly textured panel, paint the sides black and then offer it mounted, if wanted on a 5"x5" black acid free/lightfast backer board for those who may want it framed in a bit larger (5"x5") frame so the edges can all show (at no extra charge).

 

On OCTOBER 27, 2012 I am bringing what isn't sold from my ETSY shop to an art sale open house I'm having with a friend.  At this sale I will bring my wonderful black frames for those who want to add them to the shopping experience.  These little paintings look great with the black backs and black frame.  For those in the area and interested in shopping my ETSY shop in person shoot me an e-mail and I will send you the flyer with all the information on where and times! art4life44@hotmail.com .  I will also have other paintings there for your shopping pleasure, some at NON GALLERY prices! I was successfully able to make the black floater frame for "Lodgepole", but need to do a little shaving on the piece to put it in the frame..SO, I'm waiting for it to dry before I do this...a few more days and I will post the final result!!  These things happen as I get ideas for new ways of doing things sometimes at the last minute...so, occasionally a little glitch in the system...AAAHHH the creative experience! WHICH is what I HOPE you are having today!!

Oh yes...there's nothing like having a painting and NOT have the frame yet!...But, I couldn't wait to share this unique tree with you all!  I got tired of ordering frames for some of these pieces, so I found a simple molding to make them for some of my odd sizes...THAT is happening this afternoon when it gets warmer!

 

Here you can see some of the texture in this painting. I LOVE, LOVE texture as you know!  The tree is painted in oil.

PLAYING WITH TEXTURE

What I love about being an artist is the play! A chance to get into something and just PLAY! After errands and preparations for an upcoming open house I added some paint to a heavily textured 9x6" panel. I have every intent on painting something on top...but I'll wait to see...today I just wanted to show you texture!  The texture is applied to this with custom patch and an old potatoe bag...and custom patch with stamping in it...FUN!

By the time I got around to photographing this one the light had begun to fade...so, the color may end up being a surprise...it's much brighter in places...but, since today was TEXTURE...see that...this has lots going on...book pages, custom patch somewhere I'm sure and cheesecloth...FUN!

 

In all the busy days ahead with the holidays coming...don't forget to PLAY!

I LOVE pumpkins! Just LOVE EM!  I love the color and the texture...and pumpkin bread, but NOT pumpkin pie...BUT I love pumpkin fudge...go figure...It doesn't matter anyway, because you won't eat this painting, but you just may love it enough to say you want to eat it up...and that would be ok too!...Pumpkins are painted in oil.
