"Fountain Edge"
4x4" oil on clay board
An artist friend of mine has begun an new challenge blog so today I am posting a 4x4 oil painting done on clay board as a contribution to her blog.
Studio Atelier is the name of Barb Benik's new blog and I invite you to take a look. For those of you who may not know Atelier is French for studio. It is never a bad idea for us to practice our craft from visuals that someone else has posted. It helps us to stretch; working on a subject we may not have thought to investigate! "Fountain Edge" was what I came up with from Barb's very much larger photo. I enjoyed the information Barb gave on handling elipses, but became more interested in the little gargoyle type creatures spitting out the water, so that was my focus. I included a bit of the shapes that were to the right, but kept my detail and strongest lights on the focus area. I may add a bit more light to the top left, but for today here it is...
HAPPY CREATING!!

yes, i painted the whole pic, and hated it, now i'm painting the gargoyles for myself LOL
Well done, Saundra. You've handled the two gargoyles and their different perspectives brilliantly. Love your crop of the original photo, too!
Thanks all...they were rather interesting to do.
