"Grapes and Pears" © Saundra Lane Galloway

 "Grapes and Pears"
6x9" oil on panel
$95

Taking a break from paper casting and all that goes with it I decided to paint the pears and grapes I posted the pic of not so long ago.  Grapes and Pears is an oil on panel 6x9".  I am finding very much benefit from bouncing around the different media I work in.  At first I thought it may make me a bit confused, but I find it helps my creative flow all around...SO FAR!!  I went ahead and added it to my website even though it isn't dry...WOW...I am living on the edge and taking chances all over the place! HA.

I was curious as to how my style may be different painting in oils...so I focused on a favorite piece of mine painted in acrylics.  "Lemons and Cherry" is a piece I keep in my personal collection, mainly because the cloth piece they are sitting in came from my grandmother's house...and for the time being I can't find it!!!  So, it hangs in the kitchen it was painted in...I don't know...I think the style is similar...I think the thing about acrylics that was frustrating was I had a hard time blending...

I'm off to check on the teacher I'm soon going to be taking the place of...(terrible sentence!)...her baby is due to come any day...I still plan on painting and creating every day...and posting....I'm just not sure what it will be...so stay tuned!!

PS.  WE ARE ONLY ONE FOLLOWER AWAY from our next give-away...YIPPEE!!

Happy Creating!

Pears in oils---oranges in acrylics....Either way, the are very accomplished works of art!

I,too, enjoy doing different subjects in different media using different techniques and approaches.

Viva La Variety!

I don't see a difference in the style. Love both paintings - especially the lace cloth detail. Interesting to hear you say it's more difficult to blend acrylics. I will find that out this month I guess, when I do my course in tonal painting with acrylics.

Paint THICK and it is easier to blend...cuz it takes a few minutes longer to dry! HA...THanks Jean!

Wow, love both paintings, Saundra! I'm glad you move from medium to medium. It makes me feel better for my "bouncing around!"

Seeing the two paintings next to each other, I don't see too much difference from one medium to the other either, Saundra. At the same time, I remember your two bird paintings, one with oil, one with acrylics and I seem to recall there being more depth with the oils. I notice more depth with Jane's work in oils too. Hmmm...

Anyway, I hope your long-term substitute position is a great time for you. Teachers are so wonderful and your enthusiasm will carry you through that assignment beautifully! Enjoy!

Beau jeu de lumière... J'adore aussi la petite cerise qui se promène parmi les oranges... Contraste des couleurs et des saisons... Amitiés.

I so agree that both of these are really great paintings Saundra, and the way you experiment with your art is truly awesome! I must say that I am not fond of acrylics - even when put on thick, they dry too darned fast!

I understand how you feel Liz...I agree too! BUT, I find, that some of what I do with acrylics...I NEED them to dry fast...so I'm at least glad they were invented!

Love the color on the top of that back pear - what'd you use to get it? Also greatly love the fabric in the bottom piece and how you captured all the different surface subtleties in all the many lemons. . . lovely.

Thank you Lisa...I'll hop over to your e-mail and answer...THe bottom piece was achieved by sanding over my painted part...:)
